Hi all,
Had the wheels off to fit new tyres (Battlax BT203's) and painted the rims 'charcoal metallic', added the blue reflective stripe and fitted new discs from s3performance in Melbourne (ebay) just to change the look... Also new pads all round and clean up of all the brake parts...
What do we think, good or bad compared to the old?
cheers, Lee

At first I only saw the first pic and thought that it looked pretty good! :D
But the second pic makes it look more modern!
-
I have seen those rotors on another ST11. They sure look distinctive. Do they work just as well or better? I only found out about them after I bought metalgear ones that look like the originals.
-
Too soon to tell properly, but the feel is very good so far. Has Goldferm pads out of UK fitted too
-
Your original rims look golden, or is that just the light? I thought the golden hue looked good, although I am partial to blue as a colour. I think the tough looking rotors might need time to grow on me.
-
Biggles, yep, the original colour of the wheels was gold and not as good as it looks in the pic... they were quite scratched and marked by tyre fitters over the years.
As a matter of interest, the new tyres came from Kelly Tyres (Ebay) in Sydney, freight free to Berri for $339 the pair, yep, the pair....
I dont know how good these Bridgestones will be for mileage but they sure do feel good on the road.
The previous tyres were Metzeler, the rear was a 'Marathon' which gave 16,000 kays and the front gave 14,000

My current front 23 is up to 11230kms and estimate another 2000kms at most before replacement. The one before was 12,000 but wasn't balanced
The rear: first one was just over 12,000, the next was 9000kms (not balanced) and the current is up 6800kms and about half worn.
Similar Kms to the Z6 I had on previous but nowhere near the 30 percent extra kms claimed over the 21 tyre.
-
I've got BT203's front and back - they have, so far, got just a lick under 17,000 k's on them. The front is about 1000 k's away from replacement and the rear probably would be good for another 3000 max.
I have been very happy with them. These tyres have never let me down.
When I change the front, I'll also do the back. I feel safer doing that. Having a new front and a near end of life rear just doesn't quite work in my mind. Always done both at the same time.
My last set were $435 fitted and balanced - by a local bloke here on the Gold Coast.
I think I'll shop around for the next pair.
I like the colour that your rims have been re-painted. Noice.

This is why I asked :-
The ST1300's 310mm stainless steel floating front brake discs feature a lightweight seven-spoke inner rotor, saving a total of 4.7 pounds of unsprung weight over the previous model :wink1

Worn OEM honda rotor on non-abs ST11 weighs 1.75kg each. I just happen to have 2 sets here, guaranteed to be lighter than new OEM rotors...

HI leethal
Like the look, I've seen those rotors on eBay a lot cheaper that OEM.
I'm about to pull my wheel off and see about getting it straightened, what sort of paint did you use, clear etc.
Cheers

Hi Kappy
a local crash shop painted them but i believe they used acrylic laquer with clear over..
to get the look i wanted, they painted them black then 'dusted' them with silver then clear over
i had them rubbed down and cleaned up ready to go and they charged me $90 per wheel...
cheers, Lee

Hey I'm not sure if anyone else commented but are the tyres fitted backwards in one of those photos?
-
Hi Lethal
Same as Cojomo, are they the same tyre? or was a new tyre place on the wheel after the paint job?
If it's the same tyre you might want to check the rotation direction.... Just a safety thing...

Since it's 16 months since the photo was posted, presumably he's either crashed or replaced the tyre by now.
