2019 National Rally - TASMANIA
« on: December 02, 2018, 09:22:40 PM »

Welcome to the National Rally of TASMANIA!
Nov 15-17, 2019

Many thanks to the Tassie Nat Rally Organising Committee for their help in making this a very memorable National Rally for OzSTOC. We are all very excited to announce the venue for Nat Rally Tasmania 2019...

It will be held at Camp Banksia which is in Port Sorell - just a short but beautiful ride off the Spirit of Tasmania.

Camp Banksia should satisfy ALL the requirements and criteria of participating Members with an overflow of double cabins for couple who prefer private quarters only 200m down the road at Moomba Holiday and Caravan Park who have offered cabins to OzSTOC during the Rally.

The usual welcome will take place on Friday arvo (15th Nov 2019) with packs and informal introductions taking place with nibblies and the usual banter.

We have decided that this rally will be a very relaxed affair with plenty of time to socialise with old and new friends, and not too many official engagements, so that participants are not under pressure to be anywhere at specific times – bar a couple of traditional ceremonies like lunch ride and awards presentations etc.

Our team of brainiacs have been specially assembled for their intimate knowledge of Tassie places to see and must do experiences for all types of people and budgets. We will be showcasing many of the thousands of wonders of the Apple Isle over the next few months so that participants may get some fantastic insider information about roads to ride, places to see, and experiences to have while you are here.

We expect that the majority of people will want to do a lap of the map and we are only too willing to offer our top tips and recommendations.

If you have been thinking about coming over the Bass Straight for a tour – then what better opportunity than to do it with a heap of like minded friends that will be criss-crossing this state and meeting each other in many of the amazing places that make Tassie famous. We will open a “Things To Do” thread shortly – so keep an eye out for that.

Okay – about CAMP BANKSIA: Here is the website link: http://www.campbanksia.com/

Explore it to find out a heap more for your individual needs.

The basic layout is for bunk house style cabins (much like we share at all the other rallies).

You pay a once off $20 for a linen pack – otherwise you use your own blankets/sleeping bags.

Cabins are arranged in 'clusters' with a private set of showers and toilets (detached ensuites) to service each cluster. The below pic shows some clusters and X marks the spot for the wonderful communal covered area for gathering...

The arrow indicates that the Manager said we can ride our bikes over the grass and park up next to our cabins.

Below: X marks the spot for the detached individual shower/toilet ensuite. There is a double for many clusters too.

There are a few double cabins for couple who would appreciate privacy – but check the website link as they will go fast...

The below pic shows the under cover area and a bitumen area to park bikes...

Food for this rally is going to be a 'self catered' affair – but the park offers 3 meals a day for a minimal extra charge, so no one should go hungry. For instance, they cook the Saturday Night Awards Dinner food for us in this beautiful hall... (X marks the spot – food service window)...

I have also circled the audio visual equipment that supports a PA system for Awards Speeches.
This kitchen is also available for hire for those who like to
self cater – but the club and Camp Banksia are still reaching an agreement on what to do here as they are trying to help us out immeasurably – but it ultimately depends on numbers of participants/customers.

The Park fronts a beach for that early morning stroll..

PRICES AND BOOKINGS:These are ultimately between you and the Camp Banksia – but again, they are very willing to discount our Club participants if we get a group of 65+. For instance, we get the ENTIRE FACILITY to ourselves if we get 65 or more Club Members attending and staying here. They change the $100 DOUBLE CABIN price to $77, and reduce the food cost as well – so get on board with this one as the prices are extraordinarily cheap compared to the mainland as outlined below:

Remember: YOU are responsible for your accommodation booking and bed linen. YOU pay for the Rally Pack if you want one (OzSTOC mobile shop will also be available for OzSTOC gear). YOU decide whether you want food supplied or self cater – all facilities available for that (keep in mind the group dinner on Saturday though). YOU pay for you lunch on Saturday at the RTE. YOU plan the rest of your Tassie holiday since you made it this far. I believe (don't hold me to this) that Onesie may once again be doing a 'Roving BBQ Grill' so don't be afraid to hook up for a burger or snag around Tassie when you see the friendly Club flag flying.

More detail to come. Whilst I have closed this thread for comment – I have opened a discussion thread about this Rally for all queries, ponderings and iteration. See this thread - click here.

Cheers, Tassie National Rally Team.    :thumbsup

Our guest speaker will have extra copies of the fab book "A Riders Guide to Touring Tasmania" available for purchase on the night for ten bucks. Easily worth it!

He also has some other titles available too that he will show on the night - all pertinent to riding a motorbike.

He'd love to say g'day to you, so make sure you hit him up after the dinner and have a good ol laugh at some of his stories.
