Early PM800 figures
« on: April 30, 2012, 05:22:30 PM »
O.K....I've put fuel (normal woolies unleaded) into the 1100 on three occasions now...the last on Sunday 29th April (19ltrs).  With each fill I put in the recommended dosage of PM800, (i.e. 1mm for each litre of fuel)

So these figures are for the 2nd tank..this was the run from Hobart to Campbell Town to Bicheno to Swansea back to Hobart ...mainly highway type riding (if you can call tassie roads a highway) and one up...(except for the black dog, the black dog ride, duh)...

Kilometres driven:  400 Km (400.9 on the trip meter) as I pulled into the servo.

Litres of Fuel used over distance travelled:   19L (that's what I squeezed into the tank)

Consumption in Litres per 100 Kilometres: 4.75 L/100Km
Consumption in Kilometres per Litre: 21.05 Km/L
Consumption in Miles Per Gallon (Imperial): 59.47 MPG (Imp)
Consumption in Miles Per Gallon (U.S.): 49.52 MPG (U.S.)

I'll update this on the next fill (4th )..

Cheers

Kev

Thanks for the post Kev, please do keep us updated, particularly over the next few tanks.

Kev, what sort of figures did you get before?  Typically I expect around the 19kpl mark for average riding, a little bit less when riding more enjoyable roads. I think the bigger screen and extra wind deflectors have bumped normal figures down a touch. In a few weeks, or at least after going to Lightning Ridge and back in late May, I should have somethig to report.

It will be interesting to see how it improves over the next few tanks.  Keep in mind if you stop using it would take between 1 and 3 tanks to go back to similar figures you were running before- not taking into account any cleaning done along the way, particularly to injectors and valves.

What impressed me was http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/honda/st1100  only one bike bettered your result (2 bikes if you include the one that did it over one fill).  The average is 5.5-6.0 l/100km

Very early days yet, but I'm really hoping for some outstanding results from these bikes

I don't keep records, but do a rough calculation each time I fill up to see if I get 20kpl, or how far short I go. This is more to establish that I can roughly work out what range I have based on the conditions  for doing distance riding.

For the car I just happen to have been keeping some records to see what the running cost difference will be when I convert to liquid LPG, and when I get the car specifically tuned to take advantage of the lpg later on.  More just an interest in what is possible these days.

I use fuelly.com to track my mpg (yeah, I'm a bit of an anorak) - and all I can say to 59.47mpg is WOW!!!

As a starting point my 1100A averaged 16.54kms/litre from January 1st this year. Most of the trips are two-up and about half of those with trailer in tow. I had one trip to the city riding solo where I averaged 19.6kms/litre. I use ULP 91.

16.54kms/L = 6.11 L/100kms or 46.7m.p.g.

I've gone one more level this year and included expenses and so far comes to just over 20 cents/kilometre

Last years average

18.01kms/L =5.55 L/100kms or 50.84 m.p.g.

Better that year as I had less trailer use and more use on my own but consistant average for five years

My girlfriend has an EL fairmont (1997?) converted to manual, she's bought recently with a touch over 300,000km on it, and showing a little age.  Running down the gold coast everyday she's doing 6-700km+ per week.  Changing engine, diff and gearbox oils and using PM800 immediately I don't have before/ after figures but she religiously gets 680km per tank or a couple of km more with a few litres left 'just incase'.  She's too slack to fill her own bottle of PM800 up, so if she doesn't tell me it doesn't get done. So on the second tank without PM800 she bled it dry, dropped 110km and filling up a day early.  She's not happy.

She now knows to make sure she tells me when she needs more ;)

That's right- 2 tanks without PM800, and she dropped 110km.

On my second tank with PM800. What happens if you use too much PM800? I have miss judged and put in too much for litres of petrol although bike is still running fine. Will this be a problem or can I just use it and refill with right amount next time.

Keep the figures coming, looking forward to further results

Stevo not really a concern, it will only help clean it out faster. More is not always better except the first couple of tanks to help clean out the system

I think it will just act as a cleaning flush ( going by the side of the bottle) and may run a little rough.

How much did you put in??

Thanks for the reply. Measured 20ml for what I thought I needed to fill, but tank only took 15.5lt. Not an over the top stuffup, but just wondered what to look for in case of problem.

That wouldnt be an over dose, as 20 ml would treat 20 Ltrs, and as the tank holds 28 (even with a little left over pm800 from the last dose) it would be on the low side by 8ml. certainly not enough to worry about.

I've ordered some PM800 to give it a try. I'll be interested to see how it goes in the ST and particularly in the missus' DN01. We get some pretty crappy fuel at times so I'm hoping it'll clean out fuel systems on all our bikes.
