Mainlanders' routes to Spirit of Tamsania
« on: October 21, 2019, 11:48:42 AM »
Whilst I have had my ferry crossings to and from Tasmania and accommodation on the apple island booked from the earliest possible moment I  had left the mainland part of getting there open.  Last week I devised a route via Echuca to coincide with my trip and last weekend went about booking accommodation.

Maybe there is an event on in Echuca or Moama that weekend but it appears everywhere there wanted a minimum of three nights or was hideously expensive.   Consequently I have decided to go another way.

It might be an idea for those planning to wing it to check availability before they hit the road.

Twenty plus years since my days and nights travelling for the State Government, things will have changed a bit in that time, but if not Rochester, Kyabram, Lockington, Tongala, Stanhope, and a few others within a 50km radius of Echuca, all use to have good hotel accomodation, so may be now?

I looked at a few places in that area and gave up, opting to go to Melbourne instead.

Can't be bothered ringing around little town hotels asking about accomodation.  If they have a webpage, I generally send an email to as many as possible asking if the have a accomodation, availability on my preferred night, and tariff.  If they don't have a webpage, I generally find 'em on Facebook, and then send a similar message.  Most times I get (I'm guessng, 'cause I don't keep stats) a 50% response rate.
