Title: VIC RTE 2024
Post by: Williamson on October 26, 2021, 06:21:27 PM
Edit - 5 December 2022, thread title changed 2022 to 2023 which continues on post #39.

Before Garry and I start on a DRAFT VIC RTE Calendar for 2022, now is the time for you to post destinations of interest, or destinations or venues you want to avoid.  As usual, dates and locations will be set after viewing what other States have on offer or planning.

In the 2022 calendar, I'll including an overnighter or two, one of which will be a camping effort.  This will probably be half-way between Melb and ACT or Adelaide or somwhere convenient for a tri-Stater to try and encourage a few more attendees.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only 2022 event organised so far is the 2022 OzSTOC National Rally –  2 to 4 September at Mannum.  I won't be organising anything a fortnight either side of that event.

And maybe we could try for "Tooradin" again...

Perhaps we could try it midweek for something a little different?
I know that's not gonna suit everyone but for those that are retired it may work...

That makes four - Toora, Tooradin, Jindivick and Briagalong in Gippsland (which is okay), so we better get some nominations north east, north, north west, west and south west of Melbourne.

Yes & No.  All planned VIC RTE's went ahead in 2021 except for Gellibrand, Briagalong, Meredith and Smeaton.  I've added them to a VIC RTE 20222 DRAFT Google Map (link below), except for Smeaton as this one had a chance of going pear-shaped.

We've got Naracoorte and Edithburgh.

The GMap also has the NatRally and some of the SA RTE's.

Hi Darren, feel free to suggest some for a Sunday if you like, either day suits me..  :thumbs
Not sure why most RTE's seem to be on a Saturday, perhaps it's because sometimes we make it an overnighter?  :think1

Regardless, none of these have been locked in for a particular day as yet so I'm sure the organisers will take your comments on board...

I for one would like to see the Jindivick RTE held on a Sunday as the Jindi Caf does a mean roast...  :rockon

I'm sure we can include a Sunday or three into the 2022 calendar.

Yeah, that's about it.

Reminds me to get back to the 2022 calendar, and nominate a few dates and locations.

May be a future destination, but there's a couple of other events further west which will probably be enough for most Victorians, especially those a 100km or more east of Melbourne.

Bugger!  Another one.

I have book accommodation in Mount Gambier for the saturday and sunday, with the view that riding from there to Gellibrand for lunch and back on the sunday was doable.  Anywhere in that vicinity would be doable.  I'd even go as far as to say anywhere west of the imaginary  line from Geeelong to Bendigo is doable from Mount Gambier.

I won't pull the pin, yet.  I'll try calling, emailing, contact the local general store, I'll try.  If there's no joy, another destination in the broader area will be selected.  In the meantime, the imaginary is not longer.

West of that there are many options (hopefully without closed pubs), eg, Camperdown, Cobden, Terang, Simpson, Lake Bolac and many more.  Re. the towns listed, I've stayed at these in my days on the road, albeit 30 or more years back - but I suppose I'll find some more closed pubs.

Any in the Mildura/Irymple area would attract me to cross the border, and be closer than a lot of the SA ones to boot.

We had a overnighter at Silverton June 2021 - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14318.0, (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14318.0,) a few were talking of a return.  No me though, that's a two day ride (to and from) for me these days, may be for Mildura too.

Yes, I can understand the reluctance.  I suppose we all balanced the risk of short notice of border closures, distance & time to travel to our home State, against the freedom we VIC's longed for, and it worked out OK for us.

Terry (Stroppy) took the biggest risk in crossing from NSW into VIC (for the night - bed, feed and a few beers) and back into NSW.

... Balaranald RTEs have always been good.

Haven't attended one yet, and seeing as 2022 RTE calendars are pretty well set, perhaps 2023.   Might have to have a get together with other State RTE coordinators - may be at the NatRally - and discuss.  In the meantime, if people are keen for another Balaranald, let your State coordinators know.

I seem to have the ability to place a curse on some RTE destinations.
And now with ...

This means a change of destination for our Saturday 20 August 2022 RTE is needed.  So cross-out Dixons Creek, and replace it with Yea.

I'll check-put some venue options, and post an update in a week or three.  In the meantime, suggestions welcome.

Re. RTE Saturday 20 August 2022

Messages to Yea pubs have gone unanswered, I suppose they don't want our business.

An alternative destination I have in mind is the Powelly Pub (at Powelltown - d'oh!) on the Yarra Junction - Noojee Road.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Powelly+Pub/@-37.8630309,145.7526929,19.5z/data= (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Powelly+Pub/@-37.8630309,145.7526929,19.5z/data=)!4m5!3m4!1s0x6b29cc066e659d6f:0xe1f8aa1bd32a2cdf!8m2!3d-37.8629408!4d145.7527721

Powelltown is reasonably central and accessible to many of us, perhaps not Kev (but I think he'll understand) or Marcus (but dark clouds are forecast and he won't want to get his ST1300 wet anyway).

Unless I hear otherwise or to the contrary by Friday this week, I'll contact the Powelly and assuming I get a positive response for 15 to 20 for lunch, I'll start a new thread.

A little bit of research and effort led to this map.

This has 400km radii from destinations of many of the major players in Adelaide, Broken Hill, Canberra and Melbourne with the orange flag at Ouyen, and the blue flag at Balranald.

Only four votes (so far) on a destination for the tri-state RTE, and if the trend continues, it looks like we know where it will be - Balranald.  Can VIC OzSTOCer organise an RTE in NSW?

I'm now seeking feedback on preferred dates.  Given that this will be a fair commitment (travel distance ~800km round trip, and time wise), it's also fair that others have some input into this.

As with any of these events, whatever date is selected, not everyone will be satisfied, and it will be a line of best fit.  Obviously, clashes with any events are to be avoided.  The below are snapshots of NSW & SA (so far) for 2023.

Many of us will already be doing a lot of travel (to and from Mudgee) in October, I think we should avoid Sep & Nov for the tri-stater.

Hit me .......... with ideas.

Thanks for the prompt response and the chat earlier today.

Summing up today's chat, the following months are not favoured:

The winner is Mar 2024 and with Mon 11 Mar - Canberra Day ACT, Eight Hours Day, Labour Day VIC, Adelaide Cup Day SA, the long weekend is looking pretty good.

Would've liked to discuss this in PM's with the VIC power brokers, Russ and Garry (but someone's InBox is always full), so it's open for discussion in the open forum.

So save-the-date, and unless there is a compelling reason against a Tri-Stater (others welcome) to Swan Hill for Sat 9 March 2024, put to me be COB tomorrow, I'll start another dedicated thread.

Although only 440km to and from (the direct route), this is getting to my comfortable daily limit, so there'll be an overnight stop at Inglewood or Wycheproof on the way and a stay at a Royal Hotel - gotta get the Royal Tour 2024 back on track.

Yikes!

Below is the list of all the 2024 RTE links to make it nice and easy to find when the next RTE is throughout the year ... Shiney

Our QLD colleagues are well organised, but we are not far behind.  A DRAFT 2024 VIC RTE has been prepared, it will be discussed and hopefully finalised at our Kyneton RTE - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15235.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15235.0)

The only 2024 RTE with a set date and destination is 11 May 2024 at Balranald - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15267.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15267.0)

And for anyone who is not aware of the NatRally 2024 some details are here: http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15194.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15194.0)

Title: The 2024 VIC RTE Schedule - AKA the 2024 VIC Royal Tour
Post by: Williamson on November 21, 2023, 12:21:24 PM
Feast your eyes, drool all over the laptop, take a deep breath and an extra blood pressure pill, whatever ...... and Save-the-Dates.

The 2024 VIC RTE Schedule, hereafter to be officially known as the 2024 VIC Royal Tour is presented below.

Although arranged by OzSTOC Victoria, members from outside VIC are welcome, encouraged to attend.  Some of this is subject to change (venues have not been booked so far ahead), but there won't be a need to change dates, so lock 'em in.

Details re. per event (err, leg of the Tour), will be posted a month or two prior in a specific thread.

Any questions to Gary (ppopeye) Russell (Rustynutz) or me.

Balranald - already booked.

Sebastopol - long weekend here so more than like I can make it and be home in time for work on tuesday, even if venue changes.

Snake Valley - although my suggestion sunday might be tricky (no monday public holiday like Sebastopol).

What about Portland?   Closer than some others.

I meant to mention that.  Dinner probably okay, lunch may be a tough ask depending on friday's roster.

Will be a lunch.  What, around 6 hour ride for you?  Would need to have the alarm on a week-day setting.

Annual leave booked for friday september 13th and monday 16th of december so if you don't change the dates I'll be up for both Portland and Snake Valley.  If the venues change I'll go with the flow.

Hmmm, I wonder if any of our lot would be interested in a Mid Week RTE?  :think1

I reckon there would, select a time, date and destination and start a thread, you'll find out soon enough.  There's a few still working that'll find is difficult to find the time, but there's many retired that would find it easy.

I like the idea obviuosly depending on the weather etc. Wednesday isnt my best day though. Its the only day we have regular things on during the week.

Also the location is important so we dont have to go toooo far.

Seeing as it's just shy of 300km between Russ and you, and a trip through Melbourne or around, an ideal location for both will likely be problematic.  I'm in the middle, it'll be easier for me to fit in with whatever venue is selected.

How about we try for one in April and see how it goes.
Might have the GL registered by then. One can hope.
