Title: Saying hello, (20 years late).
Post by: MGB65B on January 22, 2022, 07:01:15 AM
Hi everyone.
Newbie here to the site if not to my ST1100, which I bought about 20 years ago. I was asked to introduce myself.
Been riding since I was 16, (on my 'L' plate, and YDS 3 Yamaha 250). I turn 70 next birthday.
Then came a BSA 650 Thunderbolt (which I sold after 20 years) and a Norton Commando 850 (which I sold after 25 years, and regret selling to this day).
Bought my 1999 build, 2000 first registered ST1100 in 2002 because my wife said "I'm sick of hearing you talk about it, just go and buy another bike!". SO I did! And it's one of the best decisions I have made. (I since also bought two more Nortons, but they aren't even close to as good as my old Commando. Much less good decisions).
Got a couple of MG cars too, one was my first car, bought 52 years and 240,000 miles ago and I still have it. It still runs perfectly.

I think the ST1100 is the most remarkable thing. So smooth, comfortable and tireless. And like any Honda, utterly reliable. I just love my times touring and exploring on it.
Been around Tassie, and as far north as Bundaberg. My next trip (el Nina willing), is via the High Country to Victoria, leaving Australia Day Wednesday and back some time on the weekend.
I did try the ST1300 when it came out. Much faster and more agile, but I preferred the more relaxed "run forever" gait of my ST1100.

Would I change anything on my ST1100?
Yes, I would love a height variable screen like the ST1300. I am so tired of the of the noise of the air flow over the top of my helmet. Pull my head down 5cm and it is dead quiet. About 20Kg less weight might be nice too. (The bike; though I could shed a few Kg too).

Which brings me to how I came to this site yesterday. I just bought a laminar lip on Gumtree yesterday. I hate to molest anything dead original, but I will give this a try. I read up a little on them here yesterday. Hopefully the one I've bought will fit my later model screen.
