Good morning all. First of, thanks for the add, after 36 years on BMW's, hence my name, my battered old body has said enough of the head down bum up riding position, I decide on the ST1300 after much deliberation and research and decided that it fitted my needs more than any of the other offerings as I am planning a round Australia trip next year. My ST1300 should, with a bit of luck arrive from Melbourne on Tuesday after a month long wait, then I can start doing some miles at long last. Current plans for the bike so far are, cruise control, heated grips and a fork brace, after those I will be studying what others mods riders have done to theirs to improve or enhance their rides. As I live on the north side of Brisbane Kenilworth and Imbil are my favourite weekend breakfast haunts but my real joy is touring, having just completed a 2500km trip on my BMW K1200RS. I look forward to meeting and riding with other members and maybe getting a change of nickname
Regards

Hi BM Brian and another welcome to OzSTOC from SA. :hatwave The "Holy Trinity" of farkles for the ST1300 seems to be Touring Screen, Risers and Seat mods. Have a read through the lists of mods and farkles that users have done here https://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4592.0

Welcome ‘ST Brian’. I hope you enjoy your bike. With the trinity of mods that Pete mentioned, plus cruise, you’ll find it a very capable touring machine.
If you don’t mind me asking, I’m curious as to why you chose the ST over a BMW tourer.

Hi Steve, I decided against another BMW as I have had a few issues with my current ride, in particular the final drive and clutch issues which resulted on over $5500.00 in repairs and as the BMW's in my price price range share the same design I was not prepared to risk the same failures

I understand. It has been said that some long distance BMW riders carry a spare final drive 'just in case'.

Seeing as you left out the 'W' we could call you BM Bwian. :nahnah :rofl
We are also on the North-side of Brisbane, so hopefully we will see you at an RTE soon.
Unfortunately at this stage it won't be the next one for us.
And a very warm welcome to OzSTOC.

Hi BM Brian,
Another welcome to OzSTOC from the Mt Lofty Ranges in SA.
If you want to get some practice in before your round oz trip, the National Rally is being held in Mannum in September.
