Title: First Long Ride
Post by: ozhank53 on June 23, 2022, 09:55:15 AM
On Tuesaday, 21-06-2022, left for my first long solo ride on my ST1100. First 2km was over my Sandy and rough road. The risers and standing on pegs helped enormously. Stopped in Goondi for fuel for bike and myself. Roadworks before St George, another stop for break and fuel. Onwards to Mitchell, small finger clobbered by rock thrown up by trailer. Fuel and break at Mitchell, food at Morven, and Tambo, where accommodation fully booked out. As the sun set, sat in behind road train and dawdled into Barcaldine. Slow travel towards Longreach heading into sun and worrying about skippies. Then eventually a car passed me, so I could follow, using his lights to see further ahead.

The local Honda dealer is a pretty good bloke , found replacement screw for the lid of master clutch resiviour.

I have to get driving lights fitted urgently.

Sounds like you're having fun!  :thumbs

Did you end up getting your Phillips headlight bulbs before you left on your big ride?

Thanks. I am. Yes I did manage to get and fit. But still need much more forward light. OK for me at 60, but no where enough for speed limit riding.. Spoilt with lights and bar on my 4wd.

That's a bummer! I find those in my 1300 to be quite adequate at the speed limit on our country roads.

Re driving lights...There are plenty of members on here with them fitted so I'm sure they'll be happy to offer advice on what's good and what's not...

Oh, you probably know this already but it's not a good idea to follow road trains/semi's too closely as they will just plow through any wildlife in their path and the first thing you know about it is when it pops out from under the truck right in front of you...  :eek

Cheers  :beer

You are right, still keep my 3-4 second gap, but move over so I can use their lights a bit to see better. I have LED driving lights to be fitted, just can't find the police mounts, so going to make my own adding mirror cover protector at the same time!
