Please don't change the date for Gellibrand.  I intend to be there and have booked accommodation.  Now to ask for work not to roster me on monday 16th.

Noted.

Hey BG, thanks for the reminder.  I've just been trying to progress arrangements to post in a specific RTE thread, but my inquiries so far that indicate that the Gellibrand River Hotel has closed - oh dear, note another one!!

Would you like to check your booking, and / or perhaps send the contact no. you have, please?

Bugger!  Another one.

I have book accommodation in Mount Gambier for the saturday and sunday, with the view that riding from there to Gellibrand for lunch and back on the sunday was doable.  Anywhere in that vicinity would be doable.  I'd even go as far as to say anywhere west of the imaginary  line from Geeelong to Bendigo is doable from Mount Gambier.

I won't pull the pin, yet.  I'll try calling, emailing, contact the local general store, I'll try.  If there's no joy, another destination in the broader area will be selected.  In the meantime, the imaginary is not longer.

West of that there are many options (hopefully without closed pubs), eg, Camperdown, Cobden, Terang, Simpson, Lake Bolac and many more.  Re. the towns listed, I've stayed at these in my days on the road, albeit 30 or more years back - but I suppose I'll find some more closed pubs.

Wherever it ends up, I intend to get there.  I stayed in Terang on the night of the Lorne RTE in march 2019.

I must keep an eye on this list.

Any in the Mildura/Irymple area would attract me to cross the border, and be closer than a lot of the SA ones to boot.

For a few years now I have suggested Mildura when calls go out for RTE suggestions for the following year.

We had a overnighter at Silverton June 2021 - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14318.0, a few were talking of a return.  No me though, that's a two day ride (to and from) for me these days, may be for Mildura too.

I'd like to have gone to that, but wasn't prepared to cross any borders at the time.  Balaranald RTEs have always been good.

Yes, I can understand the reluctance.  I suppose we all balanced the risk of short notice of border closures, distance & time to travel to our home State, against the freedom we VIC's longed for, and it worked out OK for us.

Terry (Stroppy) took the biggest risk in crossing from NSW into VIC (for the night - bed, feed and a few beers) and back into NSW.

... Balaranald RTEs have always been good.

Haven't attended one yet, and seeing as 2022 RTE calendars are pretty well set, perhaps 2023.   Might have to have a get together with other State RTE coordinators - may be at the NatRally - and discuss.  In the meantime, if people are keen for another Balaranald, let your State coordinators know.

I seem to have the ability to place a curse on some RTE destinations.
  • Club Hotel Yarram - closed
  • Skipton Hotel - closed
  • Whorouly Club Hotel - closed
And now with ...
  • Dixons Creek Cafe Bar & Grill - closed

This means a change of destination for our Saturday 20 August 2022 RTE is needed.  So cross-out Dixons Creek, and replace it with Yea.

I'll check-put some venue options, and post an update in a week or three.  In the meantime, suggestions welcome.

Re. RTE Saturday 20 August 2022

Messages to Yea pubs have gone unanswered, I suppose they don't want our business.

An alternative destination I have in mind is the Powelly Pub (at Powelltown - d'oh!) on the Yarra Junction - Noojee Road.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Powelly+Pub/@-37.8630309,145.7526929,19.5z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x6b29cc066e659d6f:0xe1f8aa1bd32a2cdf!8m2!3d-37.8629408!4d145.7527721

Powelltown is reasonably central and accessible to many of us, perhaps not Kev (but I think he'll understand) or Marcus (but dark clouds are forecast and he won't want to get his ST1300 wet anyway).

Unless I hear otherwise or to the contrary by Friday this week, I'll contact the Powelly and assuming I get a positive response for 15 to 20 for lunch, I'll start a new thread.

A little bit of research and effort led to this map.

This has 400km radii from destinations of many of the major players in Adelaide, Broken Hill, Canberra and Melbourne with the orange flag at Ouyen, and the blue flag at Balranald.

Indicate your preference by voting in the poll at the top of the page.

Only four votes (so far) on a destination for the tri-state RTE, and if the trend continues, it looks like we know where it will be - Balranald.  Can VIC OzSTOCer organise an RTE in NSW?

I'm now seeking feedback on preferred dates.  Given that this will be a fair commitment (travel distance ~800km round trip, and time wise), it's also fair that others have some input into this.

As with any of these events, whatever date is selected, not everyone will be satisfied, and it will be a line of best fit.  Obviously, clashes with any events are to be avoided.  The below are snapshots of NSW & SA (so far) for 2023.

Many of us will already be doing a lot of travel (to and from Mudgee) in October, I think we should avoid Sep & Nov for the tri-stater.

Hit me .......... with ideas.
