2013 IBA ride
« on: July 14, 2013, 06:09:42 PM »
here we go with the results

http://ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2013/07-12-13.pdf

ST1100 finished 8th, before the first ST1300s  :thumbs

Australians were 29, 41 and 45 so very well done as organising bikes from over here puts you behind the 8 ball straight away. I am sure the second time around will be easier as the tricks to scoring higher come with experience  .

Here's the complete listing for anyone wanting the details.
Obviously big bikes rule.  ST1100s are surprisingly popular considering their age.
The ST1300s had some bad luck, as seen by the number of Did Not Finish riders.
Yamaha FJR1300s are extremely popular.  They are the ST13s closest in type, followed by the BMW R1200

Ooops- didn't notice saaz had put in the link.  Anyway, you can see our guys highlighted.  The 2 with asterisks are regarded as non-finishers because they didn't achieve the 55,000 minimum points.  IIRC it was because they had to change bikes which halves your point score.

All the amazing people that completed in the IBR are legends in my book :-++ :-++ :-++ :-++

But the one that I was keeping an eye on wasn't spoken about much, Kurt Worden.
He didn't end up being a finisher due to arriving at the finish late, but he did ride the entire rally on a Kawasaki Ninja :eek

That guy is nuts :o

It's interesting to see what the preferred motorcycle type is for long distance riding.  It looks like BMW (RT & GS), Yamaha (FJR) and Honda (Goldwing) are amongst the most popular.

I was a bit surprised to see such a large number of FJR's.  Even though the FJR has its virtues I've always found them a bit too cramped for long distance touring.

Cheers,

Tony

And I don't like the way the electric screen parks itself every time you shut down.  Seems like unnecessary wear on the drive mechanism with no obvious benefit.
They have a very active forum in the States- moderately so here.
