Golden Dragon Rally 2013
« on: October 13, 2013, 06:21:04 PM »
Got away around 10:30am Friday 6 October, freeway to Woodend where we met with Bob & Sue and Chopper (from ADV), and Brian, Peter & Tracey (from AusTouring) for lunch.

The Mighty ST1300 and Elite camper:

Then via Tylden, Glenlyon, Franklinford, Newstead, Dunolly to Tarnagulla. Set-up camp:

Rode home, at Maldon:

An old Triumph with a chair was there too:

These parts are known for the elusive Black Puma, didn't see one but did see an old Panther:

.... with a Black Chair:

Found a bridge:

At Lancefield:

And then home.

I don't need to tell you how good the ST1300 is, everyone on here knows.  But the Elite camper?  I'm sure there are quite a few on here, but just in case.

The Elite was a slow process of evolution.  We had tried a few tents from small two-person, to large two-person, to very large three-person whilst all the while slowly gathering more and more camping gear, upgrading chairs, stove, table, etc, and also a gazebo or two.  Somewhere in the middle, we also aquired the Classic trailer to carry it all.

This at the New Year's Rally at Micalong Creek (around 80km from Yass).

This was at Tahtra.

At Adaminaby.

And then we wanted a camper trailer to tow behind Mrs Williamson's Mazda.  What could be better than a camper trailer that could be towed behind the Mazda and the Mighty CB1300.  The Elite camper was thus added to the fleet.

In the garage at home.

Alas, whilst the Mighty CB had enough power (more than than Might ST1300) it was a bit light and was pushed around by the Elite.

Alas?  That sounds a bit sad, but in reality it was great because it mean't I had to find a new STeed to tow the Elite, and so (around two months ago) enter the Mighty ST1300.

The Elite has (as most of them I suppose) the bed high and dry, a large "Queen" mattress, lambs wool mattress cover, flannelette sheets (I don't to hear or see a word about that from yuse guys), plenty of room, including headroom room for changing, an annex with four walls, easy to put up and pack-up, it ticks all of the boxes.

I'm intending to bring it the Ballarat in March 2014, if I have not upgrade by then.

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

A great fun outing with some genuine pioneering bikes there.  Looks like the weather cooperated well too.

That Panther looks like the owner doesn't want to spoil it by lavishing too much attention on it!  Its chair appears to be in very good nick.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
