ST1300 Coolant leak
« on: August 11, 2015, 08:52:55 PM »
Every so often, I have noticed a coolant smell when stopped at the lights, today when I got home the other day I noticed a few drops on the driveway.

Today the drips turned into a trickle....

So decided to get stuck into it.

Tupperware off...Again, getting quiet proficient at that now.

Seat off, fuel tank up

Drain coolant, Radiator out.

There are 2 small water joint hoses that go from the thermostat housing to the cylinder heads, one on the left and one on the right each with a 90 deg bend in it.

Left hand one had developed a pin hole leak, apart from that it looked like the OEM hose clamps where seeping as well.

I managed to get to the hoses from the front, and by removing the air box off, and then putting a small slice in the rubber mat underneath the throttle body.

Got the 2 hoses off, and toodled down to the local Honda Dealer.....But no luck with them having any of them in stock, so instead of waiting for over a week for them to come via the East, went down to the local Supercheap Auto's & found a hose off a Ford EA-EB, water valve to heater (Part#EA18472H)

Which you can cut off at either end, and presto, a perfect fit, left and right hand hose for under $10 bucks!!

Got some new hose clamps from Masters on the way home, and replaced them all.

All back together and no leaks, so very happy!!
