Hi Guys
I have a 2003 ST1100 ex cop bike, I know the high beam passing switch on the left handlebar was used as a PTT for the police radios. Does anyone have any idea where the wiring for this switch would have been routed to, for example would the wiring go to the rear box behind the seat or somewhere else.
I am intending to fit a GME twoway radio via a Sena Bluetooth setup and wish to use the existing wiring for a PTT. Don't fancy taking apart the control switch gear to solder it in direct, was hoping to chase the wires down somehow.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

There is a wiring diagram on the forum, run a search :thumb

On two police bikes I have found thus. If you have a look under the L handlebar at the sheathed wires feeding the switch you should see some tape binding the "hose". Removing that will reveal a cut wire. That is one of the passing switch wires. On one bike I had there was a wire floating about just outside the switch. This was the other end of the switch. On another bike I found it inside the switch.

Thanks Abe & Pault will give both these suggestions a look. I appreciate your help

The PTT switch is different depending on the State. In QLD the passing switch was never used for the two-way. And as such the wiring diagram won't help (sorry Abe). Dale McLean (search members) recommends that it is not used if you can avoid it. He sells an excellent and purpose built switch.

Quite a few of us here in the West are using it as PTT, a very convenient location.

As Yorkie said, I am using the high beam flasher for the PTT as well. I have tried external switched, but none fit in quite the right position for easy use

Yes this was my thoughts, need to find time now to start sorting it out!

OK, I'm not going to say anything more other than I do think this is probably the better position.

Ex cop bikes had the wire cut and the end is usually routed with the others from the left switch group, see Brock for the appropriate wiring setup.

Its not too hard to open up the switch block, unsolder the police wires and solder in a replacement. Or even reconnect the flasher wires, they are still there. You do need to feed a stiff leader wire through to pull the new tx wire in.

Cheers brock for the info
