Title: 2022 NatRally - Mannum - Done and Dustyed Report Coments and Photos
Post by: StinkyPete on September 05, 2022, 01:58:30 PM
I'll put together a summary of our Mannum Event in the next day or so.  In the meantime, here's a spot to keep the discussions and photos accessible and in one spot.

Well, the 2022 Mannum NatRally is done and dusted, and what a wonderful event it was.   Because of Covid-19 restrictions, we have not had an OzSTOC National Rally for three years.   There was a great air of anticipation for this event and about 75 riders and travellers converged on the riverside town of Mannum for a weekend of catching up with old friends and new, and exploring what this region had to offer.   I think everyone stayed in the Big4 Breeze Mannum, which is right on the banks of the Murray River, from where we could watch the river boats gliding by, including the large and majestic stern wheeler, Murray Princess which runs a variety of cruises on the river.

Meet and Greet
We held the Meet and Greet in the caravan park camp kitchen, where we gathered around a fireplace and outside fire pit provided by PC, and shared nibbles and three years of stories.  It felt like no time had passed since we had all been together, a mark of true friendships.

The Days
Before the Rally, we posted on the Forum some documents that gave information about attractions and things to see and do within about a 70km radius of Mannum, as well as some beaut rides and lunch locations.   Many took advantage of those suggestions and many stayed back to gossip and catch up.    Highlights included the Sunday trip on the PS Mayflower, the Mannum Dock Museum the local Sunday Market, the Birdwood Motor Museum, Melba's Chocolate Factory and so much more.

The Dinner
Our Saturday night dinner at The Pretoria Hotel was something special, with the staff exceeding all expectations.   Part of the large dining area was separated off for us, tables were decorated in OzSTOC colours of black and orange, and we even had some black and orange helium balloons.   It was a really busy night for the hotel as we weren't the only guests, but the meal orders came out quickly and the food was delicious.

Awards
Our annual awards were presented at the dinner, which is one of the highlights of the gathering.   “Most Charismatic ST” went to Kev Murphy and we all know the struggles he's had to keep his bike on the road.    “Furthest Travelled” went to Cerebral Knievel who travelled well over 4,000km to be with us.    “Best ST” was judged by JD Biker and Chippy, being the previous recipients, and this award went to Wilco for his immaculate and well presented ST1100.    “Member of the Year” went to JD and Chippy who attend RTE's all over the place and represent OzSTOC with grace and humility.   They were popular and worthy recipients and this award, and my personal congratulations to all of you.

Stagglers Dinner
Our Stragglers Dinner seems to be getting bigger each year, so this year is was a BYO event, and again we gathered in the camp kitchen for a final time, sharing pizza, fish and chips and whatever we brought to the party.

Thanks
I want to thank Team SA, who spent time at RTE's in discussion, makign suggestions and from which we came up with the strategies and location for the rally.
I want to thank my co-organizer Shillas for his tireless efforts and support.
Thanks to Streak and Toowoomba Hip Pocket for their support of the event and providing and printing the T-Shirts and patches.
Thanks to the Mannum Big4 Breeze for hosting us
Thanks to the Mannum Dock Museum for their generous support and discounts that they offered
Thanks to The Pretoria who went above and beyond expectations, which made for a most memorable evening.
Thanks to all who attended and for your kind words.  :Blow

I would encourage you to post your NatRally photos and coments in this thread to keep it all in one place

Biggles home and dusted 5:35 this afternoon after an overnight in Dubbo.  I'll do my IBA SS1600 ride to Ozstoc report soon.
I'm sure everyone will soon chime in and agree with Williamson and me that it was a great success.  Top location with plenty to do.  The campsite was a very good location, with its water frontage and good kitchen.

Big thanks to all that organised and attended.
It was a great trip across—plenty to do and see.
The trip home ended up doing in the day, I couldn't find anywhere that looked ok.
Got as far as Bendigo with 200k to go, and thought might as well keep going.
Many thanks again, to all.

Alison and I stayed in Mannum where it is cold and wet at the moment. The rally had the best weather thankfully. We are heading towards home on Friday via Nhill, Seymour, Orange, Coonamble and Moree. Hopefully home by the 21st.

Thanks to the organisers and all the people who made the rally such a fun experience.

Bring on 2023

Apologies for the late entry, iPad problems >:() It was a great ride to Mannum, stopped at Bordertown for the night on Thursday & rode in on Friday to meet the OzStoc family after two & a half years..!! Saturday morning catch up with everyone reintroducing themselves was great & we set off to do some sightseeing.Went to the lookout & the falls and then onto the Birdswood Motor Museum (which was amazing!). Saturday evening dinner & venue was superb & a very humbling experience for Chippy & myself as we never expected to receive any award, let alone Member of the Year Award. Again THANK YOU so much. The Sunday market was a big hit with Chippy 🤩 & the cruise on the Mayflower was lovely too. Thank you to Stinky Pete & Shillas & the SA team for making Mannum a rip roaring success & a perfect comeback to our National Rally’s. Here’s to 2023 & not knowing where we are going to have it .

Cheers,
Jd & Chippy.

Something I'd like to suggest for the next NatRally...

While it was great to meet quite a few members that I hadn't met before, I really would've loved to have met more but being a bit shy, I found it hard to just rock up to people not knowing who they were.
So, how about we all wear name tags showing your forum username at the next NatRally???  :popcorn :beer

Great idea.  :thumb  WAG generously provided some tags at the Saturday Night Dinner, and some of the longer term OzSTOC members either have their names on their OzSTOC Shirts or have the OzSTOC magnetic name tags which are available through the OzSTOC shop for $12.

Name Tags at the next NatRally would be a great help.

After today's RTE to the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Allendale North, we're calling the National Rally officially done and dusted  :grin

Farewelled the last two interstate Stragglers to attend the Rally and attend an OzSTOC scheduled event in SA.

Safe travels home PC & Navgirl.

Nat Rally Dinner Venue to go under water

From today's news

"Mannum businesses Pretoria Hotel, Deja Vu Ski Shop, Mannum Anchorage, Forty Four on Randell and Mannum Old Wares set to go under in floods.

Businesses stuck on the wrong side of a temporary levee bank set to divide Mannum’s main street are clearing out their shops and shutting the doors.

Mapping of the Mid Murray Council’s temporary levee bank, made public on Monday evening, reveals the Mannum Caravan Park, much of Mary Ann Reserve and the Mannum Rowing Club would be protected by the temporary wall.

However, the businesses unable to be protected include the iconic Pretoria Hotel, the Deja Vu Ski Shop, the Mannum Anchorage, Forty Four on Randell and Mannum Old Wares - a business in the historic old butter factory.

Mid Murray Council chief executive officer Ben Scales said the levee banks would be built to withstand flows of 250GL following the increasing flow projections reaching 175GL with a moderate chance of 200GL."

Not the first time they will have gotten their feet wet. My Dad used to tell stories of boats tied to the balcony rails in '56. I'm not sure how accurate those were, but it won't get that high this time.

They will survive.
