Storing the ST1100 for 9 months.
« on: April 17, 2013, 06:35:13 PM »
Time to head back to Canada and the weather of course is absolutely superb for ST riding.

Stunning day and more to come

of course I'm leaving and the dry season kicks in ...sigh

It's a 93 ST1100 with a new battery and been serviced here in Cairns.

Since it will be there for 9 months what do you suggest.
Fill up tank ?

The battery is new - will it need a tender on it? - if so will buy one ....how hard- easy to get to terminals...is there one that will work through the 12 volt socket??

Any other suggestions?

I have a cover for it but not sure whether to put it under the cover and invite critters or leave it off as the bike is in a big shed with other bikes as well.

Sheepskin on the seat ....is it something that might get munched on???

Thanks.

Mac,

You need to remove the seat and then remove the left hand side cover.  You will see the battery straight away.

There should be a rubber strap across the battery and you can slide the battery out easily when you remove the strap.  The terminals can be undone with a 10mm socket, or a large philips head screwdriver.

Let us know when you're back in Oz and we'll make an OzSTOC weekend ride to the tablelands so you can run her in again.   :hatwave

cool thanks - buddy thought it was a side cover and seat is easy enough
will leave the battery in - just needed to access it for the battery tender.

I'd love to come back Aus Sept this year but with Spain for 3 weeks in June and then my GF coming over in October for 6-7 weeks my staff will go into mutiny.  Wot thuh

When you do fire it up, have it outside.  There will be voluminous smoke- quite harmless, but very smelly.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
