Mackay 2018 in Pictures (and some mostly unfunny words)
« on: August 15, 2018, 09:17:19 AM »
A quick 6 day trip with Tipsy consisting of 1 night in Rocky on the way up,3 nights in Mackay and a night in Gladstone on the way back.

Brisbane to Rocky :

1st coffee stop/breakfast at Gympie

Man on a mission at the distillery

The wailing wall for Bundy rum disciples

A Rocky sunset from the 11th floor. Great room.Pity the bed was made of granite.

Day 2 : Rocky to Mackay

A wonderful sunrise after a painful 4 hours of broken sleep

Spotted this under the apartment on departure

Fuel stop in Marlborough. How big is the hat machine and what do they charge ?

Mackay Rally Saturday - the calm before the action begins.

Slade point group shot location

Eungella Lookout and the Criterion Hotel at Finch Hatton for lunch

Mackay Rally Sunday :

A classy coaster, Old station tea house Cape Hillsborough,Breakwater pub for lunch and STragglers drinks/dinner

After 3 nights poor sleep on a hardish bed i woke Tipsy up at sparrows fart and departed in the darkness. Fatigue from 5 nights of poor sleep including the night prior to leaving home
(too excited) inevitably caught up and i found a comfy bed in Gladstone in an apartment that we checked into at midday. It had a great view but the TV reception was dodgy on the commercial channels and foxtel, the aircon didn't work and Tipsy found the dryer not functional after doing a load. The drive back to Brisbane was uneventful the next day but we did catch up with Phil in Childers for breakfast after seeing a white 1100 round up some caravans and disappear off into the distance 40 km's north of Gin Gin an hour earlier.

A very unhappy driver after his driveshaft let go through it's protective cage taking out the air lines on the way out (the reason for the cage)  about an hour north of rocky.

Gladstone by day ....

Gladstone by night .....

Catching up with Phil for breakfast in Childers at the old theatre cafe.

I had an absolute ball and can't wait for Tasmania next november.

A big thank you to everyone involved in getting another great National Rally in the bag from the organisers to the behind the scenes folk and for the members and their friends for turning up regardless of what you rode or drove to get there.

Excellent account!  And pretty accurate, considering the latitude available for defamation.    :grin
The full-size photos took about 10 minutes to load on my ADSL2 connection, but good to have the quality for my personal gallery.
The Tasmanian flag on my porch was a temporary aberration during the setting-up stage.    :-(((
Sorry about your beds, Stimpy- ours were all OK (firmer than the Rolls Royce ones at home) but the Mackay pillows were a joke.
I studied the first photo of the black ST in the Rocky garage trying to work out how it fitted into the trailer (while waiting for the pix to load) then saw the second photo...    Wot thuh
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Looking at who bumped into you half way to Mackay it looks like they brought a little bit of Rally spirit to you  ;-*

My tablet at work couldn't handle it and shut down when I tried to open thread.  Before putting my fist through it I opted to wait until I got home and try on the computer and left it to load whilst I had a shower.

Great ride report Stimpy.  I've seen so many photos in the last few days I feel like I was there.  More and more I wish I could have been there, but I sure as hell intend to be in Tasmania next year.
