This is how I have changed the oil on my 1300 twice now with out spilling a drop or making a mess hope it helps others
Bike on centre stand drain oil and put bung back in
Loosen oil filter just enough to be able to undo by hand
Take bike of centre stand and put on side stand on a piece of 4x2 which stands bike up
Attach safety strap so bike can’t tip over
Put drain pan under oil filter
Pull center stand down a little undo oil filter and remove I did this from the throttle side of the bike (you could leave loosening the filter to this point if you wish)
Wipe down and Fit new oil filter
Remove oil pan from under the bike
Put bike back on centre stand
Tighten oil filter
Fill with oil
Yeah no mess on centre stand , header pipe and shed floor
It is a bit of up and down with the bike but I found it was worth the effort over trying to deal with the oil spill mess
Happy oil changing

Another option is to cut a large "scoop" out of a 2 litre plastic drink bottle and put it under the filter to catch the oil and the (possibly) hot filter.
Use your craft ingenuity in shaping the scoop to get in far enough.
As an aside, it's amazing how many threads there are when you're twisting a hot oil filter by hand!

Tapered end fits up around the filter.
