Do you prefer lefties or righties.....
« on: November 04, 2011, 10:03:46 PM »
If it came down to it, I reckon I can scrape the footpegs with a little more confidence when banking right, but generally, I love both directions. Are you the same?

I prefer "uphill" twisties vs. "downhill".

Does that count ?   :well

At this time I prefer lefties as I am able to turn my head further to the left than the right therefore better vision

I don't think it matters as I'm happy cornering either way.

Having said that. I guess left hand corners are better, simply because if you do over cook it a bit you have the other side of the road to use if nothing is coming. Whereas, on right hand corners you run out of bitumen much quicker.

My days of riding that spiritedly are well behind me. Only time I scrape ground now is due to mid corner bumps because the rear suspension preloader still doesn't work properly on the beemer. One of the little gremlins I'm still to sort out.

Cheers

I've voted left but only because I feel a tad easier than the right.  I think it's all in the subconscious from when I first started to ride and I had a bad experience on a right hander  :eek (I feel the same as Barry and Marissa).

I enjoy both.................but looking at preferences then I'd say left by a narrow margin :runyay.

But unlike Diesel I don't scrape my footpegs either way :-(((. I have scraped my boot a couple of times when I've had my toes pointed down but I don't set out to do so. I'm not knocking those who do, but I try to ride within my capability, and always have it in mind that I have others at home who depend upon me returning.

We do get lots of practice at twisties here on the Apple Isle and I just love riding these roads :grin.

I prefer left simply because there isn't likely to be any other vehicles coming toward me on that side. I've had a couple of close encounters with oncoming cars on right turns and it's un- nerved me a bit.

S'OK, but the Fourbies will still come onto your side, cutting the corner (presumably to save fuel, not because they can't drive their mini-trucks).

I wonder if "handed-ness" is a factor.  I'm left-handed, and feel more confident pushing down on that side.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Both are ok, but depends on the road and how safe it is.  My tyres seem to show equal preference to left and right.  Corner banking, line of sight etc all play a role.

If I managed to scrape one of my foot pegs on the ground when taking a corner on, I am pretty sure I would need to scrape my undies on the ground afterward too.  :butt

I must drive like a granny compared to you guys.  :law

Down side, my tyres will wear out on their centres only, maybe after a year of running they will look more like a car tyre profile     [_]      than a bike tyre profile   -  U  :rofl

Keep smiling, you will live longer

I like to run the bike a bit higher front and rear than what would ideal for touring riding. Gives better effective ground clearance and allows for a bit of a load on the bike when touring without fiddling with the shock prelaod.  Footpeg scrapping me me is a warning sign to conside what I am doing.

I've scraped my footpads (Yamaha V-Star) during a right hand corner, haven't on the left yet, but either way is good for me.
