I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

I still prefer a Four inch extension fitted to the side of my boot heel, to ensure that I have mirror clearance for my bike.

I see in a later Press Release that there is emphasis given for riders to buy a set of FFFFs before they sell out.

One wonders if you were to buy the last FFFF, whether you would get a reduction in the FFFFFFF - Final Four-inch Flexible Filter Feeler Fitting Fee?
At my age you realise something very important, then ten minutes later you've forgotten it.

My grandfather used to wield a cane knife when riding his bicycle in his '70s to keep cars at a respectable distance.
What a stupid thing to do.
Riding a bicycle I mean.

I'm going to modify a couple of old stainless steel whip antennas from the old CB radio days. When the end is ground to a thin sharp point, it will make a satisfying scraping noise as it touches a car. (May cause pedestrians to bleed a bit if they get too close)

Funnily enough, if cage drivers get aggressive with my filtering, I just give them a wink and have found it to be very effective in Australia.
Not sure if it work with American drivers tho, they tend to wink first.

See there you go again with our state troopers coming to the rescue. all for little ole us. Why do we have to complicate things and over engineer. Just throw in a bag, a mix of all the Countries States and Territory laws that we know work and use that.. Sounds too easy that's why. Then a money grab at the end, must be Christmas........................................................................................ :wht11

Road rules need to be standard accross the country, governed by the AFP perhaps or other organisation and Policed by the appropriate state Police services.

For example this current lot of holidays other states have double demerit points while Queensland doesn't. As well as other subtle differences in some of the rules themselves.

But will it ever happen, we're close but not quite there yet.

So you'd like Double Demerit Points in Queensland?
Having just done 3000 kays in NSW and been reminded every 10 kays with flashing overhead signs that DDPoints apply, I think I'll leave that suggestion alone.

I know- don't get off ya bike!!  You didn't "say" that!

Nup.  We're behind in that, too!
But on tonight's News "they" started seeing the solution to the 8 road fatalities in Qld over Easter as being Double Demerit points.

"Road rules need to be standard accross the country"
The states are very protective of their legislative powers. When the state reps were drafting the Constitution they positioned many of the powers given to the Commonwealth in s51, the "concurrent" section. This meant the states retained the ability to legislate wrt those matters. If there was a clash then the Commonwealth legislation prevailed. But you won't find traffic/criminal/education etc matters in s51.
And probably rightly so because we know the laws of physics change when you cross the Murray river. Hence the Victorian Physics syllabus will never be good enough for NSW and vice versa.
The Commonwealth has had to resort to workarounds (international treaties under the Foreign Affairs power; or throw money to the States to persuade compliance).

And after 12 months of ripping off motorbike riders for these stupid bl**dy things with ZERO improvement with anything - the Victorian / NSW / whichever government will probably resort to another good, old, reliable idea from the Victorian era, charging the motorbike rider for all costs ( AGAIN ) - you'll be back to having a flag waving, bell ringing official walking along out in front of motorbikes warning everyone of your approach.
Makes just about as much sense to the pin-headed idiots in their little offices - HEAVEN FORBID they might ever do anything remotely as intelligent as introduce a comprehensive education system for car drivers so they might get some idea of motorbikes, their riders and their LEGAL RIGHTS on the roads.

Which is why the NT removed their unrestricted speed limit. Wasn't a peoples decision - funny that seems to apply to most things the Government does.
