Title: VIC RTE's 2021
Post by: Williamson on November 22, 2020, 03:25:20 PM
After much thought by Garry and me, some prompting from Shillas from SA, a VIC DRAFT RTE for 2021 map has been prepared, here it is.

Below each red dot is a destination, adjacent to the red dot is a label with the destination name  and the month.  So far we have all of the months covered, eg:

We have tried to get a good spread for members from all directions, one a month (well not January - as yet), but are open to suggestions for one, any or all of these destinations to be replaced.

Alternatively, if you have somewhere special you would like to go, start a RTE thread to get the ball rolling.

Below each red dot is a destination, adjacent to the red dot is a label with the destination name  and the month.  So far we have all of the months covered, eg:
  • Feb - Bruthen, I'm thinking this can be a day trip to the Bullant Brewery, nice light meals, good beers and ales, and some very good beers and ales, and/or an over nighter at the Bruthen Inn Hotel, the Camping Ground or there are a couple of B&B (if you like a long walk).
  • March - Mudgee - NatRally.
  • April - Darlington or Mortlake - depends on where a decent meal is available.  Don't reckon I'll be home from an extended tour post Mudgee for this one.
  • May - Moyhu
  • June- Silverton, to match plans in motion by others.  This will most likely be at least an over-nighter, perhaps two or three (for me).
  • July - Yarram
  • August - Smeaton
  • September - Gellibrand
  • October - Naracoorte, an over-nighter
  • November - Briagalong
  • December - Meredith
We have tried to get a good spread for members from all directions, one a month (well not January - as yet), but are open to suggestions for one, any or all of these destinations to be replaced.

Alternatively, if you have somewhere special you would like to go, start a RTE thread to get the ball rolling.

Oh yeah, dates?

As you're providing feedback on the desitinations, also let me know what dates clashes with any other committments, I'll do my best to again get a good fit.

As things progress, more detail will be provided in specific threads for each RTE.

An update on the progress of this year's RTE's ...

Completed on or about planned date.

Still to come...

We have six or seven Victorians going to Silverton in June, so I'm not currently interested in planning a VIC June RTE.  However, if one or two (heck, or more) VIC members show enough interest in an alternative to Silverton, let me know the details and I'll start a dedicated thread.

I've not seen any interest from Victorians re. an alternative to Silverton - as yet.  If something is to be arranged there is not much time left for an RTE on any of the following ... Sat 12, Sun 13, Sat 19, Sun 20, Sat 26 or Sun 27 June.

So, let me know ASAP.   And when letting me "know", nominate a time, date, location and venue.

I guess things are up in the air with this lockdown at the moment...  :fp :||||

Regardless, June is pretty much out for me as I'm supposed to be having eye surgery on the 16th, so unless there's an RTE before that date, I won't be attending.  :'(

I think its a waiting game at the moment. For me regarding Silverton or anywhere else.

Just some random thoughts.
I am more interested personally in day rte’s as places like Yarram,  for instance are better for an overnight trip. Because in winter you dont have so many daylight hours to get home in daylight which is my preference.
Yarram may be a poor example because its about 2.5 hrs so it us doable but you get the idea.

Interested in thoughts and comments. Also if people are interested in a Saturday morning coffee run occasionally.

You'll be happy to know the Yarram RTE is now gone with "Toora (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=14485.0)" now in it's place, there's a half an hour saving for ya, ppopeye!  :thumb

I know what you mean though re not as much daylight so shorter runs would work better....Trouble is, because our membership is spread out what may be a couple of hours ride for some could easily end up twice that for others...

As for your idea of a coffee run, I'd be in that but yet again you run into the same issue... :||||
I guess it's okay for those that live in the big smoke though...  :think1

Your state is a quarter of the size of ours.

That's true... :thumbs

But in saying that a look at the members map seems to show the vast majority of S.A's members are centred more around the big smoke compared to those in Victoria... :thumb

Your state is a quarter of the size of ours.

It's not the size of your tool that counts, it's how you use it.

From VicRoads there's approximately 150,000 kilometres of roads open for general traffic (from major freeways to minor local roads) and a further 50,000 kilometres of other minor roads and tracks in parks and forests

From SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport 25% of South Australia's total road network, including: 13,000 kilometres of sealed roads. 10,000 kilometres of unsealed roads.  Extrapolate that and it means that SA has approx. 100,000km of roads, or about 50% that of Victoria.

And then VIC roads are much more interesting and rideable than SA roads - of course that is, when we can ride 'em.

Rusty the problem with the coffee run is to get to somewhere by midmorning I guess.  I like the idea and if we could work out possible places north west and southwest that were midpoints and move them around. Suggestions anyone.

Lang Lang ish for south west??

There's the Old Jetty Cafe & Tearooms at Tooradin...that would be a bit closer for those in Melbourne.

The "Victorian Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club" has a regular "meet" there which I've fronted up to a couple of times so I know the cafe is motorcycle friendly.  :thumbs

Here's a map with a 100km arc from some points in and outta Melbourne.

Trying to pick a "central", fair, acceptable to "all" is a real challenge.  But this may help.

I know this one as I friends in Mornington and we have met there. I did think of it too

I would be interested to know if members are interested or not in a coffee get together and how often. And therefore if this is worth trying to pick a few places to hold them?

.... I would be interested to know if members are interested or not in a coffee get together and how often.  And therefore if this is worth trying to pick a few places to hold them?

I don't need an excuse to go for a ride, if there is a purpose (like meeting-up with friends and / or like-minded people), all the better.  All that's needed is for somebody to select a time, date, venue, destination, and then start a thread, and then sit back and wait for responses.  How often?  Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, week days or weekends - doesn't matter.

People will attend what, when and where it suits them (bit like the monthly RTE's now), and of course this will depend on other commitments.  For those of us that have retired, this will probably be easier than for those still working.

If arrangements suit me, I'll be there.
