This how to is covering the install of a Fender Extender on my new ST1300 :wht13
Since I now have a new ST I decided that I should get a Fender Extender :thumbsup
I looked around for a while and found that most aren't very long :|||| so I ended up buying the "Stuff STopper Fender Extender" :thumb
The Stuff STopper is made by Blue One (Larry) from st-owners.com and is sold for $70 USD (including shipping)
If anyone is interested in getting one, Larry can be contacted through st-owners.com or via email: toewsone@yahoo.ca
(I don't get any kickbacks from Larry I'm just letting everyone know of a great item ++)
Anyway I ordered the Stuff STopper and after it arrived I eventually got around to doing the install ;-*
First remove the fender/mudguard

Sand back the under side of the fender where the Stuff STopper will sit.
(https://image.ibb.co/mnZ3Sv/20160427_171854_zpstuskwwi0.jpg) (https://image.ibb.co/bSce0F/20160427_171905_zpso3glvoi2.jpg) (https://image.ibb.co/mdJV7v/20160427_171830_zpsk2pmoznk.jpg)
Apply glue to the stepped down section of the Stuff STopper, clamp it onto the the fender and leave it to dry over night.
The next day apply silicone to the end of the Stuff Stopper (on the under side of the fender). This will stop water and road grime getting in between the Stuff STopper and the fender.

Once it is dry reattach the fender to the bike (Make sure when doing up the bolts that the fender extender is spaced evenly on each side)

And finally, go for a ride :runyay
Cheers

Nice one Shiney :thumb

Nice one Shiney.....great how to as always.... :-++
Is the adhesive supplied ?? And is it glue or mastic or similar ??
I was reluctant to use glue when I did mine as I figured glue may "break" with constant road vibration where as Mastic will never separate but allow some absorption of the road vibration. :think1
Cheers

A tip to get a smooth finish on the silicone, wet your finger with vinegar and smooth it over and wipe off the excess.

Good one Shiney :thumb
I had a look at the Laidley RTE last Saturday
Very impressed as I think it a bit wider then the MCL one :like :beer
-
Thanks guys :hatwave
The adhesive isn't supplied so I brought some at bunnings, the staff member I dealt with (a bike rider himself) recommend a glue (I'll post it up when I get home)
He said it would absorb the vibrations from the road without letting go.
Good tip about the vinegar Gadget.
And as for the size vs the MCL one, I believe it is bigger :grin

Wouldn't they be a lil pail ?

I got mine from Blue One as well but applied the belt and braces principle used ABS glue and fitted three nuts

MCL advertise two:-
the short one

and the long one

I am sure the last one is the one that Blue One makes.

I had one of the longer fender extenders from MCL on my previous ST1300 though I never had a problem I found it a bit narrow but after seeing Shiney's
Stuff Stopper on Saturday, I found it is much wider and looks like it would work better, so I ordered one today
Thanks Shiney for doing the research for us and great photo's how to install :like

Why would you spend all that money on a beautiful ST1300 and screw a $1 bucket from Coles to it :well
Not me anyway :fp

May sound like a silly question, but does the Extender inhibit front wheel removal ??? :think1 :think1
Thanks for the install details.
:bl11

Not a silly question at all Bloodman.
The front wheel is removed and replaced without any problems :thumbs
-
I installed the MCL long one and used good ole blue plumbing glue after cleaning and abrading the surfaces and then added 4 pop rivets for added security. It works a treat and keeps loads of country road crap of the bike :thumb

I just used silicon to mount my fender exrender, no screws. Just clamped it into place over night, hasnt moved since fitted.

Shiney
Had a look to fit my Stuff Stopper
Got 2 questions
As I am no real handyman doing these jobs
The nuts in the guard that hold it onto the forks,
Do they fall out and are hard to replace or are they fixed there ?
Removing the old fender extender that is glued on.
Do I just heat it with a hair dryer on the inside to soften up the old glue,
pull ithe old extender off, sand the guard then re glue it before fitting the Stough Stopper
-
The nuts on the guard fall out reasonably easily, but the are large rectangle type so easy to find. A small blob of silicone keeps them in place (same silicone you use to fit the extender :-) ) have the carbon fibre eBay one on mine, and fixed it using silicone, and nothing short of a blade or fine screwdriver is going to get it off :-}

Hi Leo,
As DavidP said the nuts can fall out when removing the guard :fp but they are fairly large and easy to find if they do drop on the ground :thumb.
They are also fairly easy to balance in the guard when reinstalling in the slots for them (See the below picture that shows how they sit in the guard)
As for removing the existing extender I believe the hair dryer should help but you may also need to cut the silicone to separate the extender from the guard, then trim the remainder of the silicone down to make it easier to sand away the last of it before applying new silicone for the Stuff Stopper.
Hope this is of some help
Cheers
