Hi all,
After speaking to ST2UP I decided to buy some little lights to go on the forks :thumbsup
I picked up 2 of these from eBay for $36.90 delivered.

They come with all the mounting hardware you'll need so I only needed a few other odds and ends:
Wire (I brought 4 meters so I'd have lots to make the distance)
Inline fuse + 10 amp fuse (I got the mini blade size so all the fuzes on the bike are the same size)
Electrical cable Joiners (the ones I got have a heat shrink wrap for waterproofing)
Wire tap mini blade fuse (10 amp - They were out of stock at the store and when I got one I forgot to take a photo of it with the other stuff)
Apart from this I used a couple of other joiners I had lying around and some electrical tape.

The first thing is to remove the left side fairings
Then remove the bolt just in front of the reflector and then remove the reflector itself

Then using the same bolt attach the silver bracket

I then bolted the lights to the brackets

After that I connected the lights to the wire with the electrical cable joiners and using a lighter sealed the heat shrink wrap

I then wrapped the joiners with electrical tape and ran the wires up along the break lines between the forks (leaving enough slack in the wire so any water will drip off the bottom before reaching the light)

After that I ran it up behind the headlight and along the left side of the bike following the existing wires (The new wires are the flat black ones)

I then joined the earth wires together and ran them to the frame to ground them
Then I connected the live wires to the inline fuse

Next I plugged in the Wire tap mini blade fuse replacing the headlight fuse and connected it to the inline fuse
*** Before plugging in the Wire tap mini blade fuse use a multimeter with the ignition switched on to find which side has power where the headlight fuse plugs in (this is a switched power feed and will only go live when the ignition is switched on)

Then plugged in the 10 amp fuse to the inline fuse and tested

I adjusted the lights to shine out to the sides and down so as to not annoy other road users

And after a few days I adjusted the lights up and out a little to make the light more inline with the height of the light from the headlight (low beam) :thumbsup

Great one Shiney, looks like the running lights are on with high or low beam. I wired mine to be on with low beam and off with high beam as I also have some Jaycar Cre Leds as spot lights. I have been thinking of changing to having the running lights on all the time . . Undecided.

I have mine on all the time (Hi & Lo) but do have a switch via a relay if I ever find a need to turn them off.....used as DRL's in the daylight facing mostly forward, then when the sun goes down angled out to 45 degrees from the bike, brilliant fill in lights. Have them set so they don't project any further forward than the low beam and go WAY out to the side of the road and beyond....get about 25 mtrs either side of the road of usable light :thumb

Yeah mate they are on all the time 8) (But I don't have spot lights)
I have also been told from a couple of people that I have ridden behind that the lights make the bike a lot more visible without dazzling them :thumbsup

I did the same thing with the same lights on my 1100, (plus 3 others of mates, all different bikes), however I have added remote control LED dimmers so that the brightness during the day can be adjusted to match the head light, plus a bypass to full brightness when the high beam is on.
All works extremely well. I agree, the front visual footprint is very much enhanced.
The rozzers I am told take exception to glaring running lights, these things can be quite dazzling.

Hi Shiney,
Thanks for a great "how to do" ariticle on the fork mounted lights. I was not aware of the fuse taps. I have always spliced into the loom but the wire taps make it heaps easier.
Consequently it was difficult to find the right wire that switched with ignition.

The downside of it is those side reflectors are ADR items. A picky inspection will snag their absence.

Just considering this installation from last year for my next farkle.
The downside of it is those side reflectors are ADR items. A picky inspection will snag their absence.
Reflector relocation an easy solution Biggles....
Just make a tag about 6cm long by 1 cm wide out of scrap anything.....Light steel, aluminium etc.
Drill a bolt hole 1cm in from each end same diameter as hole from previous reflector location and bolt size of reflector......file it up, coat of black paint and your done with the addition of a new bolt,washer ,nut.... :like

Yep- that's the solution.
I'm still toying with an extension of heavier metal to locate the small lights under the mirror mounts. It needs to project forward a little way to clear the mirror covers.

Did you need to do the little mod on the key way mount to the light to take the "rattle" out of the light ??

Done well another 24 hour of daylight bike bright enough to melt the stick family off a soccer mums beast 4x4 ;-* looks good diesel

Everything is nice and tight for now, but I have a challenging twisty ride to this morning's RTE at Mt Nebo. Will keep an eye on it. :thumb
