I've added/changed the light - LED
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:22:42 PM »
I removed the ff50 HID's from under the mirrors (they went to a good home on the range) and replaced them with the larger Clearwater Krista LED, (link to the site http://clearwaterlights.com)
the site will give you all the information on these lights. I also run the Glenda ones on the forks.

I found the LED lights to be slightly better than the ff50's with the HID conversion, more than likely because the light colour in the ff50 was 4300K.  The light colour of the LED appeared to me to be the same as the HID spotties which is 6000K.  Both the FF50 HID and the LED cover that medium distance to where the HID spots take over.  The biggest advantage for me is that there is a lot less power using the LEDs and not using threee sets of HID lights.  Biggest disadvantage is the cost  :cuss

On the FarRide out to Lightning Ridge I heard a comment from a couple of truckies coming the other way and that they thought I was a truck coming towards them :whistle

I am happy with the results and the LED lights but not with the price

I'm super impressed with my 4 inch HID's. However I have been in search of something with the same brightness but without the "warm up" of the HID's. From the Hid's 4300 lumens to the most powerfull LED technology rated at 2600 lumens. I'm keeping the HID's on the bike and looking for some LED's to fill in that frustrating lag time. I've had a quick drool over the clearwater lights and an even longer drool over the Dually D2 LEDS. http://www.rigidindustries.com/D2-p/d2.htm For the price, they're just a little out of reach and I don't think i have the amps left for halogen lamps. Getting to my point. (finally) :popcorn I'm trying to find some secondary LED's to fill the gap while the HID's warm up. Also something that won't cost me three arms and half a dozen legs. I've had a quick look at these little suckers http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-10W-750Lm-Modular-Heavy-Duty-SPOT-LED-Work-Light-Offroad-4WD-4x4-Truck-12V-24V-/330696061520?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cff057250 but i'm not sure about the 750 Lumen rating.  :think1

Mate for you to change your light setup for LED's. welllllllllllll they must be better cause your light setup rocked. I run the same spotlight setup as you ran (ff50's with the HID conversion) and their bloody excellent. Not going to chage to the LED's but if you've got em they must work

Terry, the only reason I changed the bottom HID FF50's out was because of the power draw at start up. now with the LED's I do not have that issue  :runyay They are good but oh so expensive  :cuss

Its good to hear that the lights are good, even if the price continues to hurt a bit!  Once I see how much money I have left after a year away from work but before I can claim super..have to looka again at the gear that works....

They look interesting, you may have already done a search but if you haven't, you could do one on Cree XM-L T6 LEDs and you might find some interesting information  :thumbs

Just been doing a bit more LED research. New bike needs new lights...And I know this topic has been quiet for a while.
I've been using those lights Gavo has posted for about 4 years. A week or so back I hit a real big rock...I mean the rock hit me. And after all the other bits of junk that have been flung our way I finally had one crack the lens. It still works.
If you have a sport bike or a dirt rocket these little lights fit almost any place and have no weight so even mounted out on a fairing or mirror will not be a problem. For the dollars they are good value.
