Title: Tom Tom Rider 450
Post by: alans1100 on September 23, 2017, 12:00:15 PM
I decided to bite the proverbial bullet and get a dedicated GPS for the bike. After using the car's Tom Tom Go 600 for a couple of years I went with the newer Rider 450 as the software is similar.

Bought from here http://www.motogps.com.au/ (http://www.motogps.com.au/) for $549 plus $8 postage and it should arrive at home early next week.

Arrived in today's post. Marked as Express post and still got here the next business day even though I'm out of the guaranteed Express post area. Just lucky that I ordered Fri  I guess.

Unboxing

Still figuring how to connect; not so hard once you look in the book.

All the mounting parts are for bars which I didn't need except for the bolts in left of picture. I have a ball already mounted on the dash shelf from the X gripper setup.

No hassle with connecting to PC as I had all the needed software for the GO 600 model. All the latest updates done for maps and speed camera's and all I need do is pair the phone for traffic updates which around here would be nothing. The phone can wait until I replace intercom in the near future.

All the address data from the Go 600 was also synched with the rider via the MyDrive software which saved having to enter it all again.

Until I install the wiring I can still power it via the mini USB port. Hoping to find somewhere behind the instrument panel and I think a switched source would be better.

There's also an anti-theft kit available.

Connected the wiring yesterday - was hoping for a switched source behind the gauges but ended up going direct to the battery. Not my first choice but until I can find a better place it'll have to do.

Love this set up Alan. Where did you get the shelf from and if you made it do you have anymore as I might be interested in getting one for my phone and GPS etc.

The member "Tipsy" who made the shelf no longer does them.

Here's a link to another one that another member put up - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=7622.msg87584#msg87584 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=7622.msg87584#msg87584)

There's another one in the same topic but the link is broken but hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Hi Alan, just the one I had my eye on, look forward to reading some first-hand reviews.  Shame Tipsy doesn't make the shelves anymore.  :wht11

Hi All, just a follow up on the 450. Have been checking different sites of late wanting this for Mackay. Anyways, Ryda dot Com had them normal price at $549. +$10 p and h. Were on sale at $499. Bought one last night for $448. So if you are in the market for one, extraction of the digit maybe in order.

Now I can really start planning the journey.... :grin :wht11

The rider 450 is ok and I do have some issues related to TomTom's My Drive software.

Sometimes the software isn't up to the task and freezes; or seems to (maybe PC issues) and if that happens I just go and make the route up on the unit.

I did get Tyre with it as well http://www.tyretotravel.com/ (http://www.tyretotravel.com/) and it took a little while to work out how to get a route moved on to the sat nav.

TomTom also accepts the map codes from here. http://www.mapcode.com/index.html?iso3=310&ifrom=getcoords&mapcode=8GKP.8M5&xx=132.314559&yy=-31.826835 (http://www.mapcode.com/index.html?iso3=310&ifrom=getcoords&mapcode=8GKP.8M5&xx=132.314559&yy=-31.826835)

Bit the bullet and ordered another power cradle kit to fit on the 1300s Migsel mount
