Bar Risers
« on: October 24, 2011, 11:21:17 AM »
What do members recommend if you needed to fit bar risers?
So far I have found Genmar, MCL and Helibar. Is there any others or does one of these stand out as the best choice?

I had the original Helibars on my 2003 ST13 and they were very good albeit a simple single block.  At the time I looked at the Genmar option but they were 2 separate blocks leaving a gaping hole in between (not a good look).

Recently I purchased the latest generation of the Helibar risers for my 2008 ST13 and they are excellent (much improved on the first version).  The model I bought had the RAM ball mount and Powerlet outlet, but you can opt for either or none too I think.  Here's mine installed.

Bottom line though, price may be the biggest factor.  I don't think Heli are the cheapest.

I went the MCL workes for me, just check what each one does ie rise, bar location and see what works for you by trying to simulate on your current set up

How are you actually going to know until you ride with it, as to which one works? Sitting on the bike for 5 minutes is different to riding for a few hours, with cornering etc...

The simple answer is you don't however if you are looking at bar risers you must be looking at achieving some outcome you don't just wake up and say wow I need bar risers

You may want to sit more upright and your hands closer together or further apart so you look for risers that suite you they don't make the bike handle any better they set the rider up to handle the bike better and in a more comfortable riding position

Quite a few people dictate that bar risers actually affect how the bike does actually handle all I know is that I can do 2200k's in a day and I don't get the pain across my shoulders like I used to get after 300 but that's me might not suite everyone

Before I put mine on (MCL), I felt I had to stretch to reach the bars, and it made riding a chore. Now it's no problem, and can quite comfortably do hours in the saddle without the continual strain in and across the shoulders, just as Ozrider says  :)

MCL was good for me with no mechanical skills. I had them installed and onto a celebratory beer within 1hr 15.
I used to get a numb right hand with standard bars. Probably due to it being ripped open after rolling a Honda Odyssey dune buggy in my teens. After the MCL risers my hand was in straight position which stopped the numbness  :thumbs
I got the riser with ball mount to mount my Zumo sat nav on and the powerlet whch was wired back to battery for powering my video camera.

Thanks blokes. I got the MCL risers with the fruit and have now done 6thou ks with them fitted including a trip to Esperance and back. They have made a massive difference to comfort and don't seem to affect the feel of the bike at all. MCL was very efficient getting them to me in about 8 days.

I got mine from motorcyclelarry in the USA. I felt I had too much weight on my hands making them very sore after a long ride. The risers were easy to fit and fixed the problem. I wouldn't be without them but, as some of the others say, that's me and not necessarily the same for everyone.
