Title: Sold - JIS Screwdriver Set
Post by: StinkyPete on November 20, 2019, 12:42:17 PM
JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) Screwdrivers are required for the best fit on the screws used on the ST.   Phillips headscrewdrivers are designed to cam out of the screw if overtorqued, but JIS will give a more positive drive with less chance of damaging the screws.
$15 for the set, plus postage or free transport via OzSTOC Couriers

My Beemer does not have JIS or Phillips Screws, but has Torx Head fixings instead, so I needed to buy more tools, and the JIS set is now surplus to my needs.

If I still had an ST, I would be considering replacing the JIS head screws with Allen head bolts.

This thread got me thinking about buying a JIS screwdriver for my ST but research has had me scratching my head as to whether one is actually needed or not...  :o

Some of my research has told me that Jap bikes haven't used JIS screws in years, yet other research says they are still in use...

And it's been the same with screwdrivers...

I've read that one of the best known Japanese screwdriver companies (Vessel) no longer make JIS screwdrivers yet do a search and you will find a number of businesses supposedly selling them...
Are they really JIS screwdrivers or are they actually modern "Phillip" screwdrivers that will work on both screw standards???

The prices for supposedly "genuine" JIS screwdrivers are exorbitant...well, in my opinion anyway.
Do a search on the likes of eBay and you'll probably come away as shocked as I was... https://tinyurl.com/ybpndcvd (https://tinyurl.com/ybpndcvd)  :eek

This "review" is worth a read, not so much for the "Hozan" screwdriver review but more for the other info they bring up... https://www.webbikeworld.com/hozan-jis-screwdrivers-review/ (https://www.webbikeworld.com/hozan-jis-screwdrivers-review/)
