Horrible news. I always say we are fragile creatures. Condolences on the loss of Ken, and to Lindsay for the loss of his health, all from someone elses mistake.  :'(

Sunday Update:
We have just been in to see dad. His eyes are half open but he’s not awake yet. Not blinking or moving much. Still intubated.

It’s his birthday tomorrow. Hopefully he’s awake enough for us to wish him a happy birthday.

Please see attached re Ken's Funeral
Please note, Lesley, Ken's wife has asked that there are no motorbikes at the service.

Update :-
There has been a lot of family discussion about motorbikes at Ken's Funeral.
Due to the large part bikes played in Ken's life his wife has now agreed for bikes to be at the funeral.

Tuesday update:

Dad is still intubated and will be for another 24-48 hours while he regains some strength. He’s responding well and nodded when we said goodbye and to some things the dr was saying.
He has a little bit of muck on his chest that they want him to be strong enough to be able to cough up if needed. He’s off dialysis which is fabulous.
Once he’s awake they will move him to the trauma ward for about a week before moving him to Fiona Stanley for rehab.
He’s definitely progressing in the right direction.

Hey Glen, mum is doing ok. She's been in to visit dad most mornings. She has 24/7 care organised.
Dad had his intubation tube removed today and sedation fully lifted. Tomorrow I should be able to talk to him a bit when I go in!
It's been a long 10 days but he should come out of ICU tomorrow or Friday. They will move him to the trauma ward for about a week and then to Fiona Stanley for rehab.
We are grateful for the progress he's made!

Today is Ken's Life Celebration as Lesley, his wife referred to it. I will not be there as yesterday I returned to West River to say goodbye to Ken and with Ken's Family's blessing place a small cross on site here .
https://www.google.com/maps/place/33%C2%B040'38.8%22S+119%C2%B040'53.2%22E/@-33.67745,119.68143,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d-33.67745!4d119.68143
So if you pass by on your travels stop and say hello.
While there I received this update from Lindsay's daughter:-
Monday update: Just in with dad now. He's awake and alert. He remembered that he was on a ride with Ken so I told him the news and that the funeral is tomorrow. I also talked to him about his legs. I'm pleased with how alert he is.
He's uncomfortable and keeps stretching. It's so good to see him lift his arms above his head. He seems to have a whole lot more control of them today. He's still on dialysis. They are doing an ultrasound of both legs today to check his blood flow.

He took the news of Ken how I thought dad would. With a "wow" and silence.
He said he "suspected as much" when I told him his leg was amputated.

That's a very nice memorial, Glen.  Is there a plaque with it?
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

If (when ) Lindsay starts to get down about the loss of his leg, and not being able to ride, let him know that all is not lost. My son has a mate who lost both legs in a work accident, one above and one below the knee, a couple of years ago.

He is doing the Finke this year.
THERE ARE OLD RIDERS, AND THERE ARE BOLD RIDERS, BUT THERE ARE DAMN FEW OLD AND BOLD RIDERS.

Keep the dirty side down.

Thursday afternoon update:

Dad’s super alert and making jokes 😃.
He’s now graduated to regular food and I brought in a Pepsi Max for him to enjoy after dinner tonight. 😆
The rumour is that he may even get to shower tomorrow. 🥳

I still haven't seen Lindsay yet, hopefully sometime early next week.

I have just heard from Deborah that Lindsay is now happy to receive visitors.
Due to my commitments on Friday, it will most likely be Saturday morning before I visit him.
Lindsay is now in the Trauma Ward at RPH
From the RPH website:-
Permitted visiting hours are:

10am to 7pm
seven days per week
All visitors must adhere to the following:

Patients may have two visitors at a time during designated visiting hours.
While a patient may have more than two visitors per day, only two are permitted at the patient bedside at any given time.

I visited Lindsay late yesterday afternoon.
He seemed a little subdued but it was a good visit.
He has his phone and is happy to have visitors.
I think he will be remaining in the trauma ward until he transfers to Fiona Stanley.
The Trauma Ward is in R Block on the northern side of Wellington Street.
Go up this access ramp and through the admissions centre.
