..... tyre pressures were supposed to be 12-15 psi ..... they reckon if I paid more than $500 then I was being ripped off.

The guy I bought my Classic from said the same thing.  I tired combinations of weight on towball and tyre pressures, and came to the same conclusion as you - 12 psi.


Because of the rubber torsion bar suspension used on Classic trailers the tyres have dual role. The low air pressure causes the tyres to act as shock absorbers as well.

My old Classic developed the waggles on one test run. I looked at the hitch and saw that the centreline of the drawbar was below the towball height and assumed that was the cause (360 degreee swivel hitch). I tried simply bolting a bit of plate between the hitch and drawbar to take the 'swivel' out of the hitch and never saw the problem after that. But then I didn't take it far after that.
