LED Globes in en existing indicator
« on: June 27, 2017, 08:15:26 PM »
Has anyone tried LED replacement globes in front indicators?

I've seen Draco's running light replacement but wondered if there is a suitable replacement the existing setup.

Cheers   :think1

There are LED bulbs are available, however the flash rate will go nutsn unless you find a suitable lectronic flasher can replacement.

There are ways to use a resistor to trick the can, but it wastes power.

Ok guys I have the answer for you...you can buy an electronic flasher "can" from ebay for less than $1.50. Here's a typical one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Pin-Speed-Adjustable-LED-Flasher-Relay-Motorcycle-Turn-Signal-Indicator-ID-/252797713035?epid=554269150&hash=item3adbeafa8b:g:WioAAOSwhkRWeWRX but there are others around a similar price. I have replaced all my old  cans on my cxes...including those which don't have led indicators. These units will work on either type globes and are super reliable. You can even vary the flash rate!
A couple of things to to consider however...your indicators will no longer make a tic tic noise and, if a globe goes in one indicator, the others will continue to work on happily and you may not be aware that you have a globe "out".

On my cxes I got sick of the old style flasher cans failing and my cx650 had led front indicators so I have solved it all in one hit.
I am  assuming the STs will use a similar style system...and I am about to do the same mod to my new 1100 soon!

Chris
PS here's a round style that I haven't seen before...http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-2-Pin-Beeper-Motorcycle-Flasher-Relay-Turn-Signal-LED-Indicator-Blinker-Hot-/142162661356?hash=item21198e0fec:g:99kAAOSwcUBYEpwY
These would have fitted the space directly in the cxes...so I will buy a couple of more of these in any case....however I currently do not know what style or  number of pins the STs have....???
