Well I get to use the  :||||

This afternoon we were going to head out on Aragog for a training run for Shonnee, and put all the gear on,  hopped on,  turned on the key, waited for the Can-am WoW bit sequence, hit the starter and ........

The screen went blank, the tail lights blinked, and lots more of nothing.

So.... after investigation, I discovered the battery had collapsed. Perfectly fine Friday afternoon, dead this afternoon.

We suspect is probably the original battery, so over 5 years old.

I'll try and get a new battery tomorrow.

Gary within the first few days after you rode down on BEEstY one morning I went out to ride him and click click.. After reading up I discovered loose terminals on the battery. After connecting my heated gear wires and terminal tighten and I've done 13K kilometres since without issue.

Stinky No regrets I love the F3, it gets up n going real fast and hangs on to the bitumen well. Range 430>480 so comparable to an ST. Superior seat comfort great for those Ldr  days. I replaced original rear tyre at 25,000 k’s and will do the fronts around 40k. Service at the stealers isn’t cheap but are any.
I am so happy with BEEstY I ll probably buy another can am RYKER soon as they have gone to shafts instead of belts on the ryker models.I think I chose the right machine to keep me on the road with the wind in my hair. Lol
Hope this helps you Pete in considering your options as you get into your latter years.  :Blow

Post by: Gadget on December 21, 2019, 03:41:00 PM
I'm loving mine. I picked it up with 17,800 km on the clock.

Comfortable seat and riding positions with the foot boards and Highway pegs. Cruise control and audio standard. Stacks of built-in stowage.

All exposed body work is plastic, which I found fantastic in a recent hail storm. No damage.

1st gear acceleration is awesome. There are two torque bands 2000 to 4000 RPM and 4000 to 6000 RPM. It takes a little getting used to the second snap of power, but enjoyable.

Change into 2nd at around 75 to 85 km/h, and the semi automatic gearbox makes the change super quick.

The stability and the subsequent reassurance the 3 wheels gives me in the wet is the best. I still manage to cock the inside wheel on some corners, and the bike adjusts throttle and braking on the outside wheel to put it back on the road again.

Dirt roads aren't a problem, even a bit of fun.

The previous owner had been running 12 PSI in the fronts instead off the recommended 22 PSI, so I had to replace them at 22,500 km. The steering is much lighter at 22 PSI.

The rear had already been replaced from the OEM supplied Kenda to a Toyo & it's almost worn out.

I'm almost up to 30,000 km when I'll get my 1st dealer service, in about 400 km.

I only get around 350 to 420 km from the 26 litre tank. But I'm still twisting the throttle a little heavily. :grin.

So Gadget your tank is 2 litres less than mine . I have 34,000 k's on my fronts and STill not down to wear marks.. I'm still loving mine and have added a rear rack and topbox, then additional rack that covers rear seat. I've bought the shorter brake pedal arm and moved the foot-pegs closer for my shorter STance. I've also purchased the smuggler STyle solo rear pod, oh and not forgetting I've replaced the drag bars with a more upright seating position set.. I've also added front n rear dashcam.
I'm going to soon have a custom enclosed trailer built to tow behind my recently purchased ex rental Mercedes Sprinter LWB Motor Home which I've named The KimbUs 2020.. unfortunately because of Coronavirus I've delayed any travel  pans and STaying put in isolation at home. In the meantime I'll be outfitting the KimbUs with everything I'll need to explore this country on very long road trips.. and getting front n rear dashcam fitted.

HI Gadget and JohnnyYTED.    I have heard that the Spyders are twitchy on the steering, particularly at highway speed, and it's not possible to steer with a very light grip as can be done on a two wheeled tourer.   Is that your experience?

If you grip tightly, as your body responds the the bumps it can make the DPS (power steering) to overreact and make it "twitchy".

I ride all roads with a light grip and don't have a problem.

The biggest trick is to make sure both front tyres are the same pressure, and the one you feel comfortable with.

Mine were originally only 12 PSI, and while it gave a soft ride, the steering was really heavy. Bumped up to a mates recommended 20 PSI, and it was much lighter. Now I've played a bit and prefer 22 PSI. More responsive and nice and light. Feel a few more bumps, but I'll sacrifice that for better handling.

Surprisingly, the higher pressures reduced the twitching of the firmer grip.

as Gary said a light grip is the way to go. I spend moST of my rides with cruise on and 1 hand on bars, and STeer with 1 finger even, on slight curves.. relax the shoulders release the grip and BEEstY is as STable as can be.. I haven't felt unsafe on BEEstY once in 25,000k's. Pete when COVID19 is back in its box and I can I'll come thru Adelaide and let you take BEEstY for a ride if you'd like to see for yourself..  :thumbsup

The light grip is just what I hoped to hear, and is confirmed by both you and Gadget.  When COVID-19 is back in the box, we will all be on the move again, and I'll see you in SA, NSW, QLD and/or elsewhere. :runyay

There is another Spyder in the house
I am getting a Can-am Spyder F3S SE6
A 2017 with only 7,000km on it

Because of health reasons my Doctor has asked me to give 2 wheel riding away
So along came this Spyder, bought locally in Toowoomba
I hoping to pick it up on Thursday or Friday
Soon I will put my ST1300 up for sale
It will be sad to see it go

Enjoy the Spyder Leo!   After my first Spyder ride, I thought there would be one in my future, when I get too old for two wheels, but that ain't yet.

... Because of health reasons my Doctor has asked me to give 2 wheel riding away ...

I would have sought a second, third, fourth ... opinion.

... Soon I will put my ST1300 up for sale ...

Every cloud has a silver lining - your loss, someone's gain.

It's terrific that we have options that allow us to keep riding once the two-wheeler becomes challenging.  I think a Spyder could be a heap of fun myself.

I take the video Robyn posted on FB this morning was a delivery ride.

I've invited her to 3 FB groups. 2 specifically for Spyders and Rykers, and another for 3 wheelers.

I'll do anther post for those links.

Also, take a look at the sway bar links on the front. From around 2013 onwards, they changed to plastic, and a few have broken. There is an aftermarket Baja-ron, metallic link for the sway bar, and also a replacement sway bar and adjustable shocks.

Mine came fitted with all 3 so If you want to try mine to see the difference it make,s you are most welcome.

I hope to catch up with you soon.

Home from holidays I got the Spyder out of the shed and caught up with some mate for a ride to Pittsworth for lunch
A training ride, I test rode it then rode it home after I bought it. Very different than the ST1300 and will take a bit to get used to. Probably only did 120km all up but I had to come home and look in the manual how to put it in reverse
ST riders won't understand this but sometimes wish they had one. Then how to turn on cruise control
Next time I will be all schooled up luckily I didn't get cought anywhere. The screen as I thought is to low so I will look at options.
Like Gadget said you don't need to hold on tight and just let it do it's own thing.
So I will continue short rides till I get used to it before I venture out for a decent run

Just so you know Pete, mine came with the Baja-ron swaybar, metal links (to replace the plastic ones to the sway bar), and Baja-ron adjustable front springs, fitted by the previous owner.

There is an Australian company (The Rabbit Works in Campbelltown, NSW) makes a similar swaybar, and metal links. Fagan, the owner, has several Spyders.

I have lashed out and purchase myself a brand new Can Am RT Spyder Limited
I took my Spyder F3 down to Brisbane for a service
To kill the time I  took the RT for a test ride, they said take your time as their is no hurry. Well it worked
I finally worked out a deal/trade so I pick up my new ride on the 20th Dec just in time to put under the Christmas tree 🎅

No surprises with the result... :thumbs
I assumed before I watched the video that the Spyder would win, it having the obvious advantage of 3 large contact patches on the road compared to the BM's 2 smaller contact patches.

I also have Spyder envy as my brother has also purchased a new Spyder the same as Leo’s.
I’m might have to look at upgrading mine , but I’ll have to sell BEEstY in the private market with his expensive upgrades on him.
