Coolant smell st1300
« on: January 31, 2018, 10:01:43 PM »
Purchased st1300pa from police auctions around 2 years ago and always had a coolant smell present. Today when i pulled the air cleaner assembly out to reveal the throttle body i found a weep from the hose clamp on the fast idle (COLD START CHOCK) mechanism. Going to pull tank off tomorrow and attempt to change hose clamp.
Looks difficult.
Hoping i dont need to remove the throttle bodies and replace the hose.....
Anyone done this before and where is the best place to buy replacememt hoses if required.
Thanks

Now i have cleared away the fuel injection loom you can clearly see the coolant puddle and where it was leeking. Hose looks good so will replace the clamp with a hose clamp and that should do it.
While i have access at to this area i will change main radiator hoses 1 of which you can only get to with the air box off and throttle body exposed

Just lucky you don't have the 1100 for this as I need to remove the carbs to replace the two hoses in there. At 150,000 km one was ready to burst. Had it not been for the need to do the timing belt I wouldn't have seen it.

Will you be cleaning the five way connector whilst you have the bike in bits.  May save a job later on

Already back together. Is that cooling system or vacuum hoses?

Too late!  They're the vacuum hoses that lay on top of the throttle body.

Are they a common problem?

The design of the 5 way connector means that they can get blocked, causing some rough running issues.  I have cleaned mine once and the muck in the lines was smaller than a grain of rice.  There are a few good posts on the subject in the forum.   I am sure someone will be able to find a link for you.

Just use the search button and "5 way connector".
