Blinker Problem - 02 ST1300
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:34:32 PM »
10 second delay for blinkers to come on, If I hold blinker switch to the left it will come on immediately but right hand will not, just have to wait. To follow is what our mechanic has done -

I split the halves and wet a cotton tip with electrical cleaner and cleaned each stationary side of the contacts by switching the switch each way. (required some disassembly to do so. Next step which I was hoping to avoid is to pull apart totally and clean the moving contacts as well as the stationary ones. Only accessible when pulled apart totally. Some small springs and ball bearings there that are easy to lose, but will do for you if you wish.

I am trying to have to avoid replacing flasher switch (have been told cost is approx $200 + I would suspect what ever the labour content is.

Any suggestions

G&S,  Here's a link to a ST1300 that's being wrecked.  http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=7567.msg86841#msg86841. You may be able to get the switch block.

Leo - Thanks for the links. I had already sent them on to my mechanic and his response is after reading the links. He made a comment that he was not a fan of spraying with RP7 or the like as he believes it may potentially encourage more dirt and grunge. Replacing  with a new or used unit may be the only option.

A good flush out with electrical cleaner, (spray ethanol, after RP70, then apply lithium grease and all should be good. It worked for my switch. It took ten years to grunge up so after a clean out an relube it should be good for another ten years..
