Its The Australian Defence Medal

Awarded to all Defence personnel?
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

It is available to all currently serving and ex members of the ADF (RAAF, RAN, and Army{ARA, Army Reserves and National Service}) who have served a minimum enlistment period of 4 years, but it can also be awarded if circumstances prevented a person from completing those four years.

Had mine for ages
I could have had mine many years ago too, and this might seem a bit silly, but as I never served in any theatre of war, I never considered myself as worthy of wearing a medal of any description, nor did I feel comfortable marching with those who did, on ANZAC Day.
Some good mates got into my ear and showed me that even though there was no requirement for me overseas, I was still prepared to go, so I applied for the medal and will wear it with pride on Saturday

You served your country, so you defenitely earned the right to wear your medal. You may not have served overseas, or in an active zone but we all could have been called upon at any time. These days, its hard to find some one serving who hasnt been into harms way.

Here is my collection, took 22yrs of service plus around another 10 Yrs to get em.

Australian Service Medal (SE Asia clasp), Defence Force Service Medal (20yr clasp), and The Australian Defence Medal

DITTO !    ( well  - a few years anyway )

Got mine about 42 years AFTER returning from Viet Nam. ( Just a few months before I went back there to live in Sai Gon )

Wouldn't want our government to act too quickly now - would we ?   :fp

Your service to your country is worth recognition, and you have been honoured not only for that service at home, but for your willingness to extend that service into a theatre of war if needed. Others can now see that through this award. Congratulations, and wear your medal with pride.  :thumb
