bearings and splines
« on: February 21, 2014, 07:07:33 PM »
heard a weird gravelly noise from where i did not know, started with the back wheel, spun easily and quietly with no movement. brake pads OK. Then noticed tiny fresh metal filings on the axle spacer on the brake side.
There it was a collapsed bearing. Easily and cheaply fixed.
What was worrying was the sight of shiny metal on the splines on the drive  drive spyder? if that what you call it. The hub showed no metal. I have always used the proper honda grease cannot recall seeing shiny bits like that when changing tyres before. This time i used Valvoline™ Valplex M, which is soposed to up to scratch. i think I'll be going back to the honda stuff. I change back tyres every 8 months and 20 something k's. Could not see any wear but was worried.
