There is a car thermostat that fits and does the same job perfectly and of course they are cheaper,

Readily available ones that works are:

CPC12-180
Tridon TT240-180
Dayco – DT27A 82c

If you do a search on Dayco the threads that discuss this come up

I'm running the Tridon one in my '99. Cost heaps less than OEM and was available at Supercheap Auto just down the street.

Well I was reading this topic and I was thinking might just change mine readying the bike for the AGM in SA so off to supercheap got me the Tridon thermostat and some nulon coolant as I have no idea when or if my thermostat was changed in the bikes life time to do it... I started with the slight coolant leak under the carbies easy option was remove the fuel tank and go in from there and after a hard time getting the ring spanner 6mm on the camps in the not much cpace they just needed a few turns and fingers crossed .... Now for the thermostat change I got the side pocket fairing off and easy access to fully remove the housing I did notice dry drip mark on the side of the back housing thinking it was from a hose that might have leaked a little on closer inspection it was a slight weeping hair line crack Bugger Bugger on the phone to stealership front of housing $133 rear of housing $110 bugger bugger again, I think I'm going to take my chances with another used one local wreaker used $50 full housing with temp sender in place and fingers crossed i just can't afford new at the moment grrrrrr  :fp
