Diesel, I'm here to tell you that even the early FJRs are a glorious ride. I bought one on May 9th last year in Melbourne, a 2001 model with 40k on it for $6300. Got as far as Nhill on the ride back before I was taken out by an 84 year old woman in the main street who turned across three lanes to get me. Had the bike for about 12 hours before it was written off, but I had a hoot. I'd definitely have another one.

Interesting that the specs refer to a 5 speed transmission whereas other areas in the review talk about a 6 speed . .

Looks like a nice ride, be interesting to see the onroad price . .

I almost bought my brothers very early model but I didn't quite feel comfortable on it!

Prior to buying my current ST13 I took a 2010 black fjr for a scoot from Springwood Suzuki 11K on the dial and a non negoash price tag $15.5K and no top box...... I can free from prejudice say it didn't float my boat...looked the goods but the ride didn't get the juices flowing.
If you talk to some fjr rogues they will sing its praises till the sun goes down .....perhaps trying to convince themselves they bought a great buy.
@ $27K+ for a newby I'm happy to keep that  $16K margin in my pocket  :nahnah
I jus wanna ride my bike

In the brief time I had my FJR, compared to my ST1100 (which I still have) I thought the FJR had a ton more torque and clearly this is a result of the extra power from the engine. I could easily accelerate from 60kph in top gear and felt NO engine lugging where I tend to change down on the ST. The seat wasn't quite as comfy as even my stock ST seat. The FJR had the stock panniers that seemed a tad smaller than the ST but it also had a nice Givi top-box that made up for it.
In terms of overall build quality, I thought the ST's switchgear and instrumentation was superior in feel and function, mind you, my favourite switchgear was that on my K1100LT that just felt solid. Once you get used to indicators on either side, they work remarkably well and make a lot of sense.
Overall, as much as I loved the FJR and I would buy another one, I don't feel any particular urge to part with my ST, unless it's to move to a 1300.

Importantly, the sideways shunt that destroyed the alternator cover on the FJR and immediately made it unrideable probably would not have done so with the ST. The car's bumper would probably have collected the engine bar on the ST and done no further damage. I certainly don't believe it would have caused the bike to be written off as was the FJR  :cuss

I too was a lil disappointed with the seat on the fjr....really expected it to be comfy.
I'm guessing you meant to say you wouldn't buy another....Cheers Brian

No wonder - wrong Colour - Should be white with the gel seat - very comfortable indeed!  ++
Not to mention that was 12 years ago.

I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

Yep, the 1200 is a legend. Only ever rode one once, but was impressed.
