This image is just about enough to put me off commercially manufactured Hot Cross Buns. Chris is a great yeast baker, and there is no poison goes into her yummy home made Hot Cross Buns.

With 60% alcohol I can think of other uses for it than baking hot cross buns

Where did you find that? It's time-ex, but no doubt still used by bakeries. You have to wonder what other additives bakeries use to achieve flavour short-cuts.
