Title: Voltage rectifier/regulator; 2000 ABS
Post by: Gnomad42 on June 03, 2016, 02:35:18 PM
Hi Everyone,
As I posted before, my Rec/Reg is fried, so in July I'm pulling the bike apart to "rectify" the problem.
I've ordered the Haynes manual on line, but before that gets here, can anyone help with telling me something;
IN a 2000 ST1100 ABS, is the rectifier INSIDE/part of, the alternator or is it separate?

When I look on line for stock, they only advertise '92-'96 model rec/reg's(i.e. for the old 25 amp alt's)

Any advice is helpful & welcome.
Thanks, Gnome.
Brisbane.

P.S. need a new gif image for a bike on its centre stand, surrounded by tupperware...

Hi, from 1996 (T model) and newer the alternator/generator was upgraded to 40amp with built in rectifier/regulator. An auto/bike electrician should be able to repair.

Your parts list can be found here. http://www.st-1100.com/st1100ay.html (http://www.st-1100.com/st1100ay.html)

Thanks Alan,
So if I remove the alternator and take it to an autoelec s/he can replace the reg/rec & then I can reinstall the alternator & reassemble all the other bits around it.
cuppla dayyyz!! no worries.

I would be more inclined to go to a bike electrician - A dealer near you might use one or have a look in yellow pages.

Gnome I had my alternator reconditioned at MacArthur Auto Electrical in Campbelltown, july 2014. I had removed it and taken it in to them.. this taken from the invoice
PULL DOWN AND TEST COMPONENENTS >FOUND BURNT ROTOR
SENT ROTOR TO GET REWIND
SUPPLY AND FIT NEW VOLTAGE REGULATOR
(ADVISED CUSTOMER THAT ALTERNATOR CAN NOT BE TESTED) ....that's because they didn't have the bike to fit it and teST...
I fitted it back in STranger and all was good ,, .. having the rotor rewound gives me satisfaction that it should last another 16 yrs+
from juST looking at the rotor you couldn't tell it had burnt out , it coST $320 for them to rewind and fit new REG...  as opposed to $1200 to buy new 40 amp. or $400/450 ish for 2nd hand at wreckers..  :thumbs

Thanks Johnny, whoever I get, I'll ask them to go over the whole alt, not jus the rec reg.
