There is a bit of fiddly work in making sure the wheels are aligned, it would be much easier to put a bar axle and spings. But nowhere as much fun, after all gotta keep the old brain ticking over

right way up

Hey Brock you won't need to load test it mate, there are big holes in the top for everything to fall through. :rofl :CB--

Looking good buddy.  Your set up is very similar to the suspension on mine, and it travels like a dream.  I have followed it at high speeds and sat very good on the road, and corners beautifully so I hope your works just as well bloke.

I got the wheels from here, if you dwon load the catalogue you can find all sorts of good bits.

My wheel is an 8" integrated rim and hub. If you will be using brakes, then its not suitable for your application.

Adding brakes to your trailer will add weight, and will probably mean having to use larger rims.

Hi Brock,
I missed the link for the parts catalog could you please post it again.
I am interested , did you compute the weight gain/loss of the different suspensions ie. solid axel as against independant?, and your comment re. brakes requireing larger wheels, I feel that purely for safety reasons that I would like to incorporate overide brakes as a feature in my build. Do you have any further info. or comments please?

Cheers .

If your gunna go for brakes then I guess hydraulic is going to be the best option but really there is not that much weight in a bike type trailer to activate the braking system. Electric will be too complicated for a bike I think, as you'd need a controller tho the red arc ones can be concealed well.
http://redarc.com.au/products-and-services/trailer-brake-products/eb-series-trailer-brake-controller/remote-mount-electric-trailer-brake-controller
But like Brock say's your gunna need bigger wheels if you incorporate brakes & I don't think they are nessasary IMHO

Well trailer took 5 steps back today. Removed the rear cross bar that holds the Shocks. I am going to mount them a different way that saves weight.

The pivot supports for the trailing arms are off, didnt like the welds and it pushed the suspension down further than I liked, I also cut the hangers down and angled the a bit. I will also save a little weight here as well.

Ah well, as they say in monster garage, Sparks to fly and metal to burn.....

Havent been able to do much, as I am back at work. Also as we are in a record heat wave with associated fire bans, I'm not supposed to throw sparks around the back yard. I may be able to finish the reworked suspension soon, and maybe paint the chassis. Then I have to save up for th aluminium to make the box ( and to get sufficient Argon for the welding) That wont happen till May or June, as I will be going to Thailand for a holiday (a surprise I know)

 :rd13   :hatwave :thumbs

Well hello everyone.
It looks as if I am realy enjoying my mid life chrysis.  I bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and purchased a kitset trailer from the easrern states, an  Easy Trailer Tare weight 65 kgs. and just bolt it together Cost $490-00  delivered to Perth.
At the same time I grabbed a 320 litre rooftop cargo pod from Mals Perth $200-00.
I figure that I will be able to marry the two together.
So have spent some time between beers  (remember my sons golden rule) if you do a job then having a beer is compulsary. experimenting wirh some rudamentry woodwork etc. in order to get some idea of a suitable lay out and some extra storage spsce. The basic trailer kit set  was a little larger than the pod if I just wanted to bolt it on so I have constructed a 250mm. deep base storage unit that the pod will fit onto.
So far the whole unit weighs out at just on 95 kilograms, Which I feel is quite acceptable considering that I am hoping that I will be able to restrict all the goodies that I wish to pack  including Water, Fuel, A tent Bed, an esky with the necessary refreshments including ice , some food and a small picnic type gas stove, as well as the sleeping bag and some clothes. Etc.
I am hoping that this wiil not weigh any more  than 50 to 60 kgs.
My dad told me many years ago, that if you have some, Money, is the easiest and lighest thing to carry. This lets me out as I am now skint again.
I am sorry rhat at this stage that I do not have any pictures to show , but I am sure that you all will understand that this techno stuff is somewhat beyond my capabilities at this time, but hopefully I can learn some new tricks in the near future, and the let you into some of my secrets.
  Well until that happens ,
Cheers to everyone,

Great job old wise one, :thumb you might have to start your own trailer business. How about  :spank trailers.
If you have to put brakes, you could maybe use motor bike discs/calipers .but as you said you will stop when you get to your destination.
Well done mate. Thanks for the break down. Look forward to more. :beer :runyay

We are having a trailer make of. Could you not get the balance right when you had to make the changes ? You could have a workshop and everyone turn up to complete it?  :hatwave
