Triumph Sprint GT SE 1050
« on: July 30, 2021, 09:26:09 PM »
Following up on my post about the Yamaha Niken, thoughts on the Triumph Sprint 1050?

No, I'm not looking to change, just looking for input into the various sports tourers. That said, could be a good buy for someone looking for a change at what seems a good price.

It does look like a very nice example, especially for the asking price...  :thumbsup

Here's a bit of info for those that may be interested:

I see they have dropped the price from what they are asking on bikesales.com.au... https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/details/2014-triumph-sprint-gt-my15/OAG-AD-19630486/?Cr=3

Interesting.. Triumph is very ST ish, and you would probably look twice at it. At 10k I would of thought for a good late model bike is quite reasonable. Although it has 57k on it. Commuter bike?
The Kwaka only has 18K on it which is probably the better buy, as a guess, just a weekend warrior.

Interesting to see what the others are doing. 8)

That's older than mine but has way less k's on it.  And it's in  South Australia.

My thoughts ... depends why as ST owner would want a change.

If it's a forced change, eg. ST has been written off, or their current ST has very high km and costs to maintain or repair are not economical, and if the current ST owner is very happy with an ST, there are enough low km ST (of the 13 variety) currently on the market that would be a better alternative to the Triumph.

However, if it's a change because at around 330kg the ST is getting too much to handle, the Triumph at around 270kg would be a viable alternative - for me anyway.

Many of you have met my mate Phil (Wooli, Port Sorell and many RTE's), he had an Triump Sprint ST 1050 - even lighter (240kg).  He loved his ST, only sold it due to the riding position was too painful after a leg injury.

Yeah, I see this as an alternative in the future.  Ask me when I'm a 75yo.

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

I'm looking at alternatives only because of the weight and age of my ST. At this stage, my first preference is the Versys 1000. I don't think the Triumph's riding position is as upright as the ST or Versys. My first priority is comfort. 2nd is weather protection. Even the Versys doesn't match the ST's weather protection, but it's the best alternative so far for my requirements. I'm not interested in any off-road offerings.

The SE comes with a gel seat, heated grips & a touring screen so it may not be too bad.
Plus, you have that lovely triple. If you can't have a V4, I reckon a triple is the next best thing...
I'm not much of a fan of inline fours...sorry Bodø!  :grin

Oh, as a bonus the Triumph has 17" wheels so that gives you more choice when it comes to tyres compared to the Honda ST...  :thumbs
