Well thats not good
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:26:57 PM »
After my trip to Thailand, jumped on the bike to have a ride, and refuel. On the way home, bike developed a shudder and then the clutch started to slip a bit. As the engine was up to temp, I decided that the clutch fluid was in need of changing, so deed was done..

Started the bike up, and all seemed good. Jumped on the bike on Saturday arvo to go to coffee with Joondalup Ulysses, but didn't make it, as the engine warmed again, clutch gave out again. Daughter gave me a lift home, where I found a bike trailer at a local hire, place and recovered the bike. (Still managed to get to coffee with bike on trailer.)

Next day, found that even though the bike was in gear,  it could be rolled back and forth.... Bugger..

Started disassembly, what a chore. The whole left side has to come off, even crash bar and exhaust included.

Well, with everything off, the plates were examined, and found the top 3 steel plates were showing signs of wear.. Also, the clutch centre was showing signs of spotty wear.
Pic posted soon when I get it off the phone

Right O, time for the pics of the shiny spots. New clutch pack has been ordered from David Silver in the UK, and the clutch centre from Partzilla.

Yeah, hope the parts get here soon, I have a marshalling job on the 23th. It would be unfortunate to have to cancel.

It wont take long to put back together, especially now I have a new Ryobi 369 Nm rattle driver.. :) It makes removing and fitting big nuts easy.

Bit of diesel under the rear tyre before your burnouts should give your clutch a bit longer life.  o:)

ST1100_Greg,
Thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on the offer.
I have been notified that one of the parts may be delayed-on backorder. Or I will have to cancel the marshalling task in a day or two to allow them to get another marshall.

Update.

Clutch parts have arrived, bike still moves with a clunking noise when in gear...

Not a happy Chappy.

Next thing to look at ( when son gets home and helps me get the bike up on the centre stand) is the back wheel. Maybe the drive spline is worn out. Seem to recall Wombat had similar symptoms near kalgoorlie. Its OK though, its only money that a non working guy can surely afford..

The new splines have arrived, and the seal that I forgot to order. The bike can now start to go back together.

All parts have been reassembled, rear drive fitted, diff oil re filled. Engine oil, clutch fluid checked and all in the green. Test ride successfully carried out. Had to jump start from the BT50, as the new lithium battery wasnt at full charge.

Thanks to West Aussie Glen for the expensive WAG 900 tool special to refit the seal retaining nut in the diff, it worked a treat. It will be available for all westOz guys to borrow should they need to pull the diff apart.

Decided not to pull the front off the bike n do the timing belt at this time, The bike needs to go riding and so do I. The new drive couplings (and the rebuilt clutch) feel so good, and no clutch groan as yet.
