Are my bars 'stock' ?
« on: November 02, 2017, 09:30:45 AM »
Hi all,

I recently fitted a CalSci 'extra-wide' touring screen to my STeed, and found an annoying little problem.  With the screen down the clutch and brake levers hit it when I go to full lock.  No problem in normal riding but a nuisance when shunting around.

Before I start pondering whether I should look at bar mods, or whether I just cave and go back to the 'standard' CalSci screen that I bought first (yep I might be a little OCD), I need to know what I'm starting with.  I've never seen a showroom ST so I'm wondering whether my bars are stock, or whether they have been raised.  Photos attached. There is a part that looks like it could be a spacer.

Thanks!

Steve.

The bars are stock.
You do have the stock Police Bar Riser Plates under the bars that you could try removing or replacing with other Bar Riser Plates.
Other Bar Riser Plates move the bars not only up (like the Police ones), but back towards the rider as well.

A "How to" is located below (The pictures may explain things better then I can in words):

Champion.  Love this place.  You guys must just hang around the pub waiting for new posts to answer   :-++

Thanks for the info. The bike does look as if the original owner did absolutely zip to it, but that riser plate did look questionable.

Moving the bars back a tad as well as up would fix my screen issue and would probably also be more comfortable. I have to keen reminding myself to not lean on the bars and put weight on them which makes the bike harder to control.  How the sports bike riders manage I just don't know.  :crazy

I have 1.5 inch MCL risers in mine with powerlet socket built in. They made the riding position a lot more comfortable and keep the hand / wrist level stopping cramping in the hands  ;-*
