Battery Choices

Hi guys I had a small problem with my battery either not holding enough charge or not getting enough charge or maybe a dead battery I believe from research I done that the battery is due for replacement I noticed that my clock needs to be reset daily and its getting hard to start slower and slower. So here's the part I confused with as this is my first ST1300 which I had for just a few weeks which type of battery do I get a normal battery or maintenance free or Lithium Iron I like to get a battery that will last and hold a charge.

The battery you get, is determined by the capacity of the battery, and the amount you want to spend and where you are located.  The guys will be along shortly with options for you. As your battery is dead/dying, (classic symptom is resetting clock and hard start) I would get a cheap one that will do the job for now and save for a better one in the future.

A local battery place carries the SSB batteries at reasonable prices so you might be able to find one locally if you are in a hurry. They also carried the SSB lithium ones for a bit over $200 for the ST1300 (STroppy got one). There are a few members around your way so they might know of places.

Go lithium if you want to hold charge. I started mine last week after 10 weeks of shed sitting and it started like I had ridden the day before   The old OEM battery would only last 3 weeks.

As said, Lithium has been good to me.  I spent the money and got the 360 CCA SSB and it cranks energetically all the time.
The technology is still to young to see how many years we'll get out of them.

well thanks guys looking at making the jump to Lithium as prices seem to be fair for there capabilities so if they do what they claim I sure it will suit me time to get one now that I was stuck waiting for a jump start on the weekend while out on a ride so put a damper on the awesome days ride good old road assist was there to jump me battery is well past it used by date bike still charging at 13.8 so unless its something else I sure its a dead battery.

Well Guys got myself a 425CCA cranking starter spinning power with a brand new SSB Lithium  LH14-BS fits like a glove and my clock no longer requires setting every time I start the bike. Now lets see how well and long it will last to justify the extra pennies spent acquiring it thanks to all the support and advice guys.

Strewth, you could spin a Rolls Royce turbine with that!
The ST should fire on the first compression.
I thought $250 for 360CCA was a bit rich.  How much was yours?

I've started to get the clock/trip meter reset problem recently.  I suspect that the battery is the culprit as it's been in the bike six years (and who knows how long before that!).

I was wondering how the lithium batteries that you discussed back in 2015 have held up.

battery still spinning the st1300 at same speed for me no problems yet touching wood planing on doing the same for my CRF1000L when it needs to be replaced i wenton five week hoilday and on my return it turned over like i was never gone so i would say it works well for me.

My lithium is still good. Will start up after sitting for 3 months no worries. It wont last long due to headlight drain if the key is on while you are fixing some wiring or adjusting accessories or using the 12 volt socket, but otherwise the weight reduction and better starting is worth it.

Update on the SSB Lithium LH14-BS the battery I got this battery in march 2015 and showing signs of needing replacements loosing charge after 5 days so I believe it is loosing life now so I am very happy with the performance and starting power even now with being almost 2.5 years old I am happy it is easy to crank when its got a charge so I off to replace it with a another one.
