Replacing Coolant/Thermostat

Hi all , am looking at doing oil and coolant change on my recently purchased 08 1300. I'm just wondering as have only recently acquired the bike

and don't know if or when the thermostat was last replaced, would it be advisable to do so. Documents show that services have been kept up to date

they just don't go into detail as to what has been replaced. Last service was at 94,000k and bike is now at 104,000k. If it's a good idea to replace would it

be advisable to go genuine or is there an aftermarket thermostat that's just as good but won't need a home loan to purchase. Cheers

Hi and welcome, its always been my practice to "if in doubt do it". My bike has a full history also when I bought it, which was part of the reason for the purchase. Had a new rad and thermofan, and sender fitted, all with paperwork, but I still changed the coolant as a matter of course. The reason is I know it's done. Just adds that other layer of protection...Most service items are straightforward. Enjoy  :wht11

I'm not sure that I'd be replacing the thermostat if it's not giving any problems, but I'd certainly consider replacing the coolant, brake fluid and clutch fluid.    It's possible to test the coolant to see if its still OK, but I'm not sure what is involved in that test, although I believe that it's a simple "test strip" test that is dipped into the reservoir.  Ask your trusted local motorcycle dealer.
