Alan, you might check whether the Dawson Development Rd from Tambo to Clermont is sealed.

Thanks.
Generally my little TomTom gives me a route avoiding dirt roads as that is a setting I chose. If a dirt road is unavoidable then a warning will come up and I can either accept it or find another longer way. Sometimes though it tells me to avoid a road that has been sealed because the status has been changed.

With all that being said I use Google to plan the route and check on the roads, fuel stops, things to see and places to free camp along the way.

Found these maps showing QLD roads - moved them over to my Google Drive. Got fed up with my sat nav directing me down roads that were only partially sealed when I checked them later on Google Earth.

Do we have a van park or the actual address of where it will be held as yet?

Hey STroppy and STimpy (... and everyone), In a word - Yes, we have made some arrangements, but there are still too many other things to be sorted as well for it to annouced just yet. Suffice to say it will not be an expensive cab fare from the park out to the Mackay Marina, to join the fishing charter. Cheers, see you at Wooli. John & Kate.

Hey Alan and other fellow OzSTOC route planners,
In planning your route to NR2018 Mackay, be aware that tropical cyclone Debbie all but destroyed the Sarina Range, and will be unlikely to be usable any day soon, if ever...

...so, if travelling north up the Bruce Hwy (or sometimes referred to as the A1), do not use the old Bruce Hwy which goes inland from Marlborough...

...or if coming in from the west along the Peak Downs Hwy (Hwy 70), do not bypass Nebo and all will be good - no dirt...

... please post any queries about this end of the route and we will do our best to help you out...

... we also have plenty of info on other great things to see, do and ride, while you're up in our patch... so if you can, add a few extra days to your plans. Cheers, John & Kate

We will have land cruiser and caravan so would be able to transport some in the car to the marina.

Thanks,

I chose this route to Mackay using the QLD maps I found. https://goo.gl/maps/EHyZEPj4HNL2

Haven't looked at return trip yet but down the coast to Brisbane/Gold Coast area was one idea.

Hey Alan... checked out your route and would suggest you consider a left turn at Rolleston and come up through Emerald, Capella and Middlemount... I don't think you can get through from Blackwater, up the Bedford Weir Rd... Cheers, John & Kate.

You must have picked up a slightly different way from my link as I went via Emerald, Clermont & Nebo
