Title: OZSTOC New Year's Eve Party
Post by: WendyL on October 24, 2013, 11:23:47 PM
Hi all,

I'm extending an open invitation to my place for a New Year's Eve party.  I'm kid free for nearly 6 weeks over the Christmas school holidays, so I have plenty of spare beds if any OzStocers would like to make a trip to Darwin to experience some amazing wet season storms, and of course great hospitality.  Tony and Neale have already expressed an interest in venturing north for a good party :KissBlow

Hi Wendy,
Early in January this year my brother-in-law, who rides a GS, wanted me to ride to Darwin with him as he had never seen Darwin's storms.
He still hasn't because there weren't any while we were there in January.
Perhaps I can convince him to return for this New Years.
In any case, at this stage I'd like to accept your kind offer of a bed. If you get more takers than beds I'm happy to find other accommodation.
Do we know when the "open speed" trial starts in the NT? I want to attempt the centre line run, Darwin to Port Augusta in under 24 hours, on the way home.
cheers,
Lionel

Lionel, they're promising us a decent wet this year, so we should see some good storms in January.  Unfortunately the open limit trial isn't until 1 February, and it's only a 280km stretch of road north of Alice.

First bed booked, a few more to go, plus lounge room floor  :KissBlow

Thanks for the invite Wendy but for a long time we have been putting off being in Sydney for the NYE fireworks so a few weeks ago we booked for Sydney. Would love to see the Darwinn storms one year. Hope you have a good time.

At least the fireworks are fairly predictable and reliable regarding their timing.

Isn't there a lot of those circular type storms up your way around then??

BOM are threatening us with 3-5 of them this year, but that's in the whole NT region, including Gulf of Carpentaria and all the way to the WA border.  If it's anything like last year, Qld will steal all our good weather (read rain and storms) again.

Would be nice Wendy but I have not seen in a new year since  I turned 55 ...
Can no longer see the need to as each day to me is a bonus.
If IT wake up dead then I will start complaining.
My saying in the morning is "Good mornig world(then in Arnie type voice) I am still here".
But you have a good time any way and we will meet at Ballarat in march.

Wendy,
I must be turning into a fair weather rider.
I notice that Foxtel is predicting Alice Springs temps at 40+ for the few days before New Year.
Darwin is shown as having heavy rain for a week.
I suffered the heat badly earlier this year while riding tp Cunnamulla, then Darwin and Alice Springs.
I'm going to wimp out of your New Year's party.
I hope to catch up at the annual meet.

It's nice to see that you are arranging a 'Cyclone' for all those OZSTOC visitors over Christmas/New year. Stay safe and hope the storm isn't to damaging.

Don't know what you guys are talking about, no cyclone here, not even real heavy rain, only a measly 40mm today......

There is a bit of a blow brewing to the west, but it's heading west.

The invitation is still open to anyone who wants to venture up this way  :KissBlow

Blame the weather forecasters for that one............tropical low possible cyclone forming off the coast near Darwin  in the Timor Sea.

That bit is accurate, it's just that it's heading west from the Timor Sea, ie going away from Darwin.  Still very overcast this morning, nice and cool too, if the rain holds off for another couple of hours I might even get the lawn mowed.

If anything it was closer to Kununurra.......but we certainly had a couple wet days out of it and our sis in law near Marla was thankful for the 20 points (her words) on her cattle station got as well.

To get this back on track, we are unable to make Darwin until our funding sources improve somewhat.
