Title: Road Motorcycle Boot Design Advice
Post by: Streak on August 16, 2016, 05:01:44 PM
Hello Team,
I have been contacted by one of my work boot suppliers who are looking at making a Road Unisex Motorcycle boot, and have asked me for advice in what people look for in a road orientated boot.

Could you please give me good constructive feedback on what are the major points you look for in a boot, such as comfort, design, safety aspects, style, and the like.

This is not for a special OzSTOC design, it is to help a supplier build & design a boot for market (and hopefully I could stock and sell to)

Thank You!

1)Waterproof  :thumb
2)Wearable all year no matter what the temp  :thumb
3)Able to wear on the bike and then walk around in them i.e save carrying additional walking shoes or boots :thumbs
4)Longevity - My Gaerne waterproof riding boots are now 5 years old and still doing the job, although the sole is wearing a bit. They were soft enough on day one to ride in and then walk around.  :thumbsup

***And tassle's, they need tassle's, lovely sparkly tassle's***  :KissBlow

Zip sides, with a waterproof flap covering,
A decent sole like a work boot. (I hate those thin ones that wear out in 6 months.

A wide short fitting would be really nice, my foot is size8 long and 9 wide ( high instep as well)

I recently bought new road boots and I looked for protection, comfortable fit, able to walk in them, waterproof and cover over the opening, good grippy sole and NO tassles.  :p

I've had my Alpinstars touring boots for around three years now and they are close to perfect.  I can wear them all day, walk comfortably in them and they have never let in even a drop of water in the harshest conditions.  They were like an old pair of slippers from the day I bought them.  Therefore I'd be looking for....

Full length boot
Strong heel ankle and toe covering.
Flexible and comfortable
Must be properly waterproof
Molded hardwearing sole (Photo 3)
High waterproof inner flap, and waterproof zippers (Photo 2)

Just looked at them on the 'net.  Are yours the Super Touring or Tech Touring?  There are 8 varieties altogether.

Not the moulded aircell type soles, after a bit of wear, the inside starts to collapse and make the boot uncomfortable.

It's a bit hard to tell as the design keeps changing slightly, but I'm petty sure they are the Web Gortex.   See  http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-web-gore-tex-boots (http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-web-gore-tex-boots)

I was just looking at boots the other day and these two look awesome to me:

Comfortable and easy to walk in (Good movement when bending forward and back), good grip on the sole, waterproof and safe.

Apart from waterproof, I think the poll agrees with one of my key criteria- grip.
You want to know that when you put your foot down, it's unlikely to slide (unless you stand on a round stone , ice or mud).  Also essential when you're trying to paddle back into a parking spot.

My SA made Rossi boots have served me well . . Had them for about 4 years. Agree with all the above, however just a minor safety point, my Rossi's have a small reflective patch on the side of the boot, one on the rear of each boot would be worthwhile as well.

:blu13 In the 70's and 80's i always wore Rossi touring boots, comfortable for walking, high up thus protecting shins from flying rocks and such, (always used dubbing monthly to keep stitching soft and waterproof.) my first pair lasted 8 years, then passed on to a mate who wore them a further 3 years till they fell apart :like ++ :thumb :-++ :blu13left
