Title: Helmet Holder / Helmet Stand
Post by: Shiney on July 27, 2020, 11:28:26 PM
After buying a new helmet I decided to make a helmet holder / helmet stand and after a bit of work came up with this idea which has worked out well :grin

To start with I used a U shaped alloy bracket I had lying around.
(It measures 25 cm on the upright sides, 14 cm across the bottom, 4 cm wide and 0.5 cm thick)

I screwed one side of the U to the wall and bent the other side out on a little bit of an angle.

Next I sliced a slit into a bit of foam and slid it onto the outer side of the U.
(The foam is a bit longer then the side of the U)

This gives a soft cushion for the helmet to rest on and the angle keeps the helmet away from the wall.

The bottom of the U also makes a great place to hang a jacket out of the way.
(It also makes a great place to hang a charging cable for the headset on the helmet).

Anyway I thought it worked out great and was worth sharing :thumbsup

Good solid re-purposing. Just shows how important it is to throw nothing away- it will always come in handy in the most unexpected way. I have a shed full of stuff in that category.  :grin

Can Gadget please use correct punctuation in O.C.D.  Curse my pedanticness (and yes I know that is not in the dictionary).

Actually, maybe I'm being pedantic, but it's in mine, Bodø,...  :whistle

Spellchecker put a red line under it when I typed it.  Can I play the "English is not my first language" card here?   :whistle

Hey Shiney.   I love the idea of a stand for jacket, helmet etc and it looks very practical.   The only improvement I would suggest would be to put a dome on top of the helmet holder to minimise the chance of damage to the foam liner of your helmet.

Had a traffic engineer (Roland) working in my Team 20 year ago, qualified, 4 years uni, civil engineering degree, plus one year computer science, couldn't spell if he's life depended on it.  Continually sending correspondence and reports back for correction.

Didn't take long for me to be looking over his shoulder as he is preparing a report, and notice a red, squiggly line under some of his words, he hits right button and then add to dictionary.

Me: What are you doing?

Rols:  That tells me I got the correct spelling, so I save it.

Oh dear, I ask one of the other enginners to empty his dictionary, and we have a chat about MSWord.

Thanks Pete, I do plan on shaping the top of the foam to smooth it out but haven't had a chance yet :H
I'll post a pic of the finished product when I get it done :thumbsup

Cheers
