Title: Rider Assistance Network (RAN) - How it works.....
Post by: Diesel on July 04, 2013, 10:11:39 AM
Members of OzSTOC have helped formulate an assistance plan for anyone in this scheme on tour who needs assistance to get going again. This is NOT a replacement for your Motorist Association Membership - just a group of friendlies whom might be able to help out. Keeping Members' personal details PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL has been our paramount concern in planning this scheme.

If you are able to offer some assistance (in whatever capacity your means allow), and you want to be a part of this scheme, you can send a PM to ST2UP with your details in the following format:

FORUM NAME:  (e.g. DIESEL)

FIRST NAME:  (e.g. DAVE)

PRIMARY CONTACT No: (e.g. 0414 xxx xxx)

SECONDARY No: (e.g. (07) 5499 xxxx)

LOCATION: (e.g. CABOOLTURE QLD)

SERVICES OFFERED: (e.g. Bike recovery (trailer), emergency accommodation, 10 mins to Honda Dealer, internet, garage/workshop/tools)

Our OzSTOC RAN Co-ordinators are Jean (Pocket Stocker) and Chris (ST2UP).

Our Co-ordinators do three final things:

1. They will plot your location on the RAN Map (private)
2. They will send you a PM with the OzSTOC Rider Assistance special Phone Number to contact in emergency. (Yes! We have our very own National emergency contact number)
3. They will take the calls for assistance (much like NRMA or RACQ do), find an Assistance Member in the area and contact them with your details.

How it works:

I find that my alternator gives up the ghost somewhere near Mt Isa and am stuck. I call the OzSTOC RAN Number and give Chris or Jean the details. They will then look up the Assistance Member in that area and explain. If that Member is able to help - fine. You are rescued.

If they CANNOT HELP at that time... fine too - The next Member is looked up. If no luck there - we tried, and you are now on your own. Out of courtesy - let the co-ordinators know your progress.

Just supply your details as above to ST2UP to be eligible for this service. Again, your details will be kept private - guaranteed! Remember - this is for small emergency use only

Questions will be answered below.

Thanks to the Members of the RAN Committee who helped formulate this scheme. We are proud to offer this great service to our great Members.      :thumb

Cheers, The OzSTOC Team

My operators voice will go something like this:

If you own a ST 1100 please press 1

If you own a ST 1300 please press 2

If your Tipsy and fallen over please press 3.

If you put in Diesel instead of petrol please press 4

 :rofl  :crackup  :rofl

But in all seriousness I hope that this RAN system can help out any of our members that find themselves in trouble.

Don't forget to save the number into your phones.

I've read through this thread three times and I keep missing THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER.  Can you post it again please?

Or is it meant to be a closely-guarded and difficult-to-research-even-with-Google secret?

The RAN number has been PM'd to those who have nominated, the Phone Number is not being published on our public Forum veiwable by non OzSToc members for all the obvious reasons.  :thumb

Even if you feel you have very little to offer by way of Bike assistance, Emergency accom etc due to any of your personal circumstances, PLEASE consider registering for RAN, you may be the close by member who is able to make a difference to a fellow member by taking them a hot coffee while they wait in the rain for further assistance.

for you to Consider.......PM Whizz with your details

Agreed... I think if you want access to the number them you must register. (I have close to nothing to offer apart from lodging) but I think just having that extra sense of security while I'm out and about, and lets face it, we're all riding back roads, the road less travelled.

I've often wondered while out in the middle of nowhere. Who I would call if something did happen.

I think a local always has something to offer, as they know where to get things (except KFC in Maryborough!) and people who can do things.

Bump......Just keeping it fresh guys, have some holes in the Map we would REALLY like to fill to give this scheme every opportunity to succeed, we all could potentially be a recipient of the service........Dont be concerned if you cannot offer "Emergency Accomodation" or a fully equiped bike Workshop etc.......your mower can with 5 litres of Petrol (for most members  :p) would be of massive assistance in the right situation......even your local contacts could be a deal breaker.

OK, latest members volunteering to join the RAN and provide support for members in their regions are;

Tony
Malcolm6112
Honk
Gadget (Gary)
Growly
MikeGood

Many thanks to these members for joining in.

Please remember that first contact when in need of assistance is to the RAN phone number NOT directly to these members.

Also remember the famous saying "If all else fails ring for Fred, maybe Fred can't help, but it's nice to know that you're not alone!!" This may well be applicable to the RAN, but the more members we have involved in this undertaking the higher is the likelihood that assistance can be obtained when needed...so join in if you can!!!

Cheers all

Any chance that the registered RAN participants can see a map or the list?    I'm keen to see the coverage at this early stage of the network.

Perhaps to maintain privacy a map could be generated with a coloured coded circle indicating the type or level of assistance that covers the area or town or city that the person offering assistance resides in.

Just a thought....

Similar has been discussed Sabie........OzSToc is assessing the interest the RAN generates in this current formate and then consideration to extending the smartphone option as access for the future aswell......the confidentiality of personal information is the paramount concern, cheers for your ideas.

Hey there's a worm over here....I wonder what the taste like????

This is very simple. We will not be publishing the RAN list details to the club, it is there simply and only for if someone is in trouble they can ring the Ran List phone number to see if there is someone in their area that could help.

PRIVACY has been our biggest stumbling block with the RAN List. People who have volunteered themselves for the list, quite a number have insisted on privacy and that is what we are going to respect.

As much as we would like to publish a map or locations, we don't think it is fair to the people who don't want anything published, as they might be on the list, but not in a position to help on the day you are in need of help, we dont want anyone feeling pushed into a position they have to help if they can't at the time.

The RAN list is built around, if your in trouble, ring, if there is no one in your area that can help, then you move onto your next solution.

We will be publishing a phone number of the RAN List that you can ring to talk to ST2UP and Pocket Stocker

We are still refining how this is going to work, but our most important thing with this is that PRIVACY of all those involved is respected totally and completely.

Patience peoples this is a work in progress  :thumb

Well done to the team putting this together.  :clap :clap  While a map or a list might be nice, it is not essential to the operation and concept of a RAN.  For generally contacting members, we can already see where other members are via the Members Map and make contact via e.mail or PM.
Keep up the good work.

Streak, I don't know why you've quoted my last post, I'm not asking for any details of the RAN, I simply suggested a map in response to Stinkypete's post as a way of getting around the privacy issue by marking a map with the general location of possible RAN assistance, whether it be by town or city, Shire council area or general geographical area. I in no way suggested anyone details be broadcast.

I think you may have jumped the gun on this one by associating my post to your statement regarding breaching or requesting to breach privacy.

Could I suggest you have another read of the posts for clarification.

It was also a friendly dig at st2up regarding his statement that OzSTOC was looking into it  as if it were a separate or governing body and is to be taken as a dig as we all do from time to time.

The more participants the more options and coverage we all have, however......be nice to fill some holes on the RAN map in Victoria in Melbourne and to the east, South Aust in general, NSW North of Sydney to QLD boarder up the Pacific Hwy, QLD North of the Sunshine Coast.

Basing this also on the members map  :thumb

With National Rally next month there will be more ST's on the road at one time than any other time of the year......Have YOU joined the RAN  :think1

Checkout the details here....http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4765.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4765.0)

If your not on the road you may be of help to another member riding to Ballarat.......and if you are on the road an unexpected call to you from the RAN Co-Ordinators may put you in a position to help a fellow member in need of assistance in your normal local area.

Just supply your details as above to ST2UPto be eligible for this service.

We really have some holes in the RAN assistance network in the following area's.......South Australia, the Higher traffic routes from Melbourne through to Sydney particularly around the boarders......and the North Coast of NSW.

Had a member today call the 24hr RAN line for assistance, closest OzSTOC member who had nominated to assist via the RAN scheme was over 200K's away, yet on the member map we had 5 members in a 50 k radius of the member in need of assistance. If your in a position to offer any assistance to a fellow OzSTOC member even in the form of your local network of contacts please consider the RAN scheme.

With National Rally in our near future its time to plug the OzSTOC Rider Assistance Network (RAN), if you haven't made the choice to assist have a read of the below...... ;-*

The RAN has been used on a total of 11 occasions since its conception. That 11 members who had there traveling drama's of varying degrees made just a little more bearable knowing that there was help a phone call away.

I just stumbled across the RAN  while rambling through the forums. A great idea and i've just pm'd my details to ST2up (Chris?). I'm  in the north of SA, so further out than many in SA. I don't know, but maybe the RAN should be a 'sticky' - of course, it might already be one and i just missed it... :whistle

We will have minimal mobile reception in the first 2 weeks of December 2016 as we are heading "bush" on a little jaunt  :runyay

RAN will be covered by Shiney in QLD in our absence with the OzSTOC mobile being diverted to him.

Its a great scheme and has helped a number of our members since its inception  ;-*
