A good find Brock. Just about to replace the seals on my 88 GL1500.
Some great hints and love the improvised allen key.

Not my find Glen, I just followed a request by Marco to post it somewhere that would be easy to find.

Just make sure you get the right diameter ones.. up to '95 and police - models 41mm.. Post '95 (except police) 43mm. I ordered some online and received the wrong size for my '96 police model, the company exchanged them but it cost me an extra couple of bucks to send the first ones back.

Watched that vid prior to doing mine, I wish it had been that easy.
There is no way the screw cap can be replaced whilst holding the spring pressure, I had to use a ratchet tie down strap over a socket drive with allen key fitted to get the tension and not X the thread.

I made this to help with the forks:-

It also helped when compressing the spring also.
It also helps when I torqued the end cap as I have bar risers.

I have just replaced my fork seals with genuine ones a couple of days ago as my right hand side seal has been leaking covering my break caliper with oil. Today was my first decent ride and have found that the same one is still seeping oil, I'm not sure what to do next as I have done a visual inspection when changed and there were no signs of scoring or pitting on the tube. I have heard lots of suggestions on whether to rub the shaft with fine wet n dry or a fine abrasive like Brasso or similar. I'm not keen to replace the shaft as I would guess that a genuine Honda replacement will probably go for over $300. As I cannot see any obvious reason for the new seal to leak I am a bit perplexed on what to do next.
Open for suggestions?????
tks
